Dr. Dre Speaks On Favorite Newcomer, Veteran In Hip Hop

Postby lil_bayly » Dec 13th, '10, 03:01

Dr. Dre will be on the cover of the upcoming issue of XXL Magazine - understandably so, given the excitement over the good doctor's first single in years, "Kush."

Among the topics discussed in the issue was Dre's favorite "new" artist in Hip Hop: "Just recentley, actually, I’ve heard some really good artists. I’m a fan of J. Cole. I like Don Trip. Those two I was actually in this studio working with recently, and I really like their vibe. Especially J. Cole. I think that kid has a serious future ahead of him. He’s articulate. The way he speaks is – he’s got it. All he needs is the record now."

Additionally, Dre discussed his favorite veteran in Hip Hop. Electing Jay-Z over some of his proteges in Eminem, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, Dre sung Hova's praises. "Oh yeah. I mean Jay is my favorite. I’m a huge Jay -Z fan. I love it. I’m waiting for his record right now. Hopefully, I’ll get a track on it. We’ll see. Yeah I love it. Because it helps keep alive the type of music that I love to do."

What type of hip hop does J. Cole make? I've never heard any of his songs, but I've seen his name pop up a few times on this forum. Is he worth checking out?

I downloaded Friday Night Lights and I'm just now listening

:y:

The music itself is very laid back and chill, and Cole is a good rapper and singer

Glad that he co-signs J. Cole. That kid is pure class and has a bright future ahead of him. It sounds like he has a great thinking of his records too (J. Cole that is) cus I heard him say that he wouldn't collaborate with a lot of different big artists for his album which a lot of people do nowadays to make their stuff sell.

He probably doesn't wanna sound obnoxious choosing one of his own proteges. Like "Yeah, I brought this guy into the game, now he's the biggest rapper in the mainstream. Sup bitch".

That, and J. Cole is closely related to Jay Z.
