Eminem finally going to star in a new movie

Deadline reports that DreamWorks has picked up a new pitch entitled Southpaw, which is being crafted as a starring vehicle for Eminem.

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is writing the movie, which will feature Eminem as a welterweight boxer who has a fast-track to a title shot when his world crumbles after a tragedy.

DreamWorks CEO Stacey Snider bought the pitch in the room, immediately after hearing it. Here's what Kurt Sutter had to say about the movie:

I took meetings with Marshall's producing partners over the past 7 years, looking for something to do together. I know he's very selective and doesn't do a lot. But he shared so much of his personal struggle in this raw and very honest album, one that I connected with on a lot of levels. He is very interested in the boxing genre, and it seemed like an apt metaphor, because his own life has been a brawl. In a way, this is a continuation of the 8 Mile story, but rather than a literal biography, we are doing a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life. He'll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom, and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy. I love that the title refers to Marshall being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to hip hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It's a much harder road for a southpaw than a right handed boxer."


Kurt Sutter will start writing the script immediately and a draft will likely be completed by February.

mods dropped the ball moving it to media...hell why not move everything to media since everything surrounding eminem can be put under "media"?
you keep irrelevant things like Eminem's voice and how he uses words that don't exist in the main Eminem section where all the visitors can see but yet you put one of the more important news stories the past few months in media where no one except for the more active members even bother to look

then you have to deal with a backlash of noobs posting new topics thinking they've uncovered the city of gold

I honestly don't see the point of the sub sections. Even without them, the Eminem section isn't cluttered. There's days in between each of the "last posts" for the topics only on the first page. The topic at the very bottom of the front page of this section is a locked topic from a week ago
