love this thread, of course he's going to "make" shit up sometimes to rhyme, the actual tense/grammar fuck ups are what I notice and annoy me more, not that they're bad either tho :coffee:

WTF? Do you fools listen to my posts or do you just skim through 'em? :facepalm

Undoubtably: The correct standard form of the word is UNDOUBTEDLY. He UNDOUBTEDLY says "undoubtably" in the song. There's a reason it's underlined in red on spell check, you know.

Sededation: The word is "sedation." Sure, he may have been saying it that way just to make it rhyme with "medication," but that doesn't change the fact that it's not actually a word.

Succame: The past-tense of the word "succumb" (which is clearly what he intended) is "succumbed."

Hydrocordone: The generic name for vicodin is "Hydrocodone." There is no "R" in it.

Aphyxiation: The word is "asphyxiation." The "s" is not silent in any of the forms of the word.

Intergalactical: The word is "intergalactic."

Conversate: The correct, standard English form is "converse." "Conversate" is what is known as a back-formation.

It's not a correct word. It's in the dictionary as "slang" and "non-standard"...and that's only because of its prevalence.

If enough people use a made up word, it'll be added into some dictionaries.

If it's common parlance, or enough so that it gets recognized then it is a correct word.

It's just not universal or maybe even national parlance and therefore must be referred to in a way which reflects that.

But any word is as valid as the next. We give words meanings, they're just audible formations we make up. What do you think makes them 'correct' to begin with? us lmao. There's no unchangeable rules or 'word god'.

Language is a continuum that shape-shifts with the zeitgeist. Not a collection of preoperative words and rules that cannot be altered or added to.

Accepting that a word is used isn't the same as the word being "accepted." None of the words I listed are in the dictionary as standard English, and it's unlikely they ever will be.

And the English language is governed by certain rules...it's not just a matter of people going out and making up words, then waiting to see if they catch on.

Otherwise, Eminem might as well really "invent a new language."

Language is used to communicate ideas. They are sounds people understand and interpret for meaning. If you hear or read something and understand the message that the person sending it intended, then the word is fine. He isn't turning the lyrics in to be graded by a teacher.

Good thread.

Conversate I thought was a word, I've heard Biggie use it too on 'Nasty boy' (or the shit remix of it that Diddy made for the Duets album and renamed it 'Nasty Girl').
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".
