Yo I have a question for some people on this board tbh. I'm a huge Em fan and shit but I'm just curious - do a lot of you truly base opinions off sales? Like I've seen so many people here saying shit like "Sales >>>>" - and in reality (although they obviously are great to get) - have you ever sat back and looked at the top 10 best selling albums of each year? They're formulated, generic trash. To be completely honest - I'd rather have my album sell a million copies eventually (which is more than decent in the economy were in today) and have virtually every critic call it a 'masterpiece' and a pivotal album in Hip-Hop rather than sell 3 million copies with 2 generic Hip-Pop hits and be a critical failure.
For the record - I prefer Recovery to MBDTF before you stans go crazy - but I thought I'd input my opinion because I'm truly curious as to how you guys feel. Like Drake's album is known as a success - and it did a bit over a milli - clearly MBDTF will reach that (without having any hits, the leaks he had I think - I remember people complaining about them months in advance, and being as controversial/hated as he is - and is he even promoting?) in a lil over a month so it's pre much got the best of both worlds.
I think in Rap - Eminem albums will always outsell the fuck out of any other rap album out. Jay had WAYY more commercial appeal and critical support with The Blueprint 3 (2 top 5 hits and 1 more top 10 hit and another sleeper hit) yet he managed to do 1.8 when all was said - whereas Eminem's Relapse was one of the most non-mainstream albums ever and it still did 2.5. No matter what Eminem will outsell any rapper. Encore has outsold Jay's best selling album in America which is kind of sad IMO.
So ya - back to my original point - do you guys really think it's just 'Sales >>' - over everything =/ ?
