Perhaps I jumped the gun with eazy E so I will concede to him on that point, but I do believe that he's the epitome of "death hype", it wasn't until he died that he garnered such a huge rep among hip hop heads and eclipsed other living legends in the DITC (Lord Finesse, OC, Diamond D). When he was living he was barely anymore recognizable than any other DITC member, and it wasn't until he passed that LOPD was considered a "classic" in people's eyes.
Pac and BIG while fellated had tons of hype while they' were alive, so did Pun and Guru just died recently so that point is moot.
As far as his skills as a rapper that's another topic I'd really rather not get into now.
