It's not as objectively clever like the line I stated in my original post.

But it's clever because it's animated and has personality.

It's something that fits character rather than something that is immediately interchangeable for any lyricist. Obviously a knife can't stab you itself...

It's just a play with the idea of having something delivered in the mail. Like if you put a bomb in the mail, except if you put a knife in a mail - a knife is an inanimate object so it can't do anything on its own - but he makes it animated with the line 'have you stabbed in the mail'.

That's in essence what makes it clever but at the same time, that's not entirely it. It's hard to explain because often - lines like that, or certain artistic themes in general are just clever in and of themselves and if you don't get them or agree, it's pretty hard to try and define why.

It can also take some of the magic away with lines like that, to try and break it down to bare-bones logic because the line itself isn't logical. You either get its aim and like it / get its aim and dislike it or don't get it at all. If you don't get it at all... not much I can say lmao.
