Has Eminem the bigger impact in Hip-Hop History?
Imo yes.
MC's like Rakim(&Eric.B),LL Cool J at the end of the 80's made a lot and then Tupac and Biggie especially with their rivalry made for Hip-Hop mainly in US.Then Jay-Z and Nas.
But in my opinion Eminem from 1999-2003 took the Hip-Hop to the highest level ever.People in many countries outside of US didn't give a damn about Hip-Hop and they even didn't know who were Tupac,Rakim e.t.c.Eminem made people in many countries to deal with Hip-Hop and with other MC's.
Just look Eminem's all access europe if you don't remember.
From 1999 to 2003 Eminem was not only the face of Hip-Hop but generally the Face of Music.He was the biggest star in the planet and that's because of his greatness...

yes he has the biggest impact on hip hop 'cuz he proved that he can make it to the top and stay there with his skills rather than due to controversy .

I do think he has the bigger impact for some reasons.

First of all, like he said it in "Encore" (the song), he broke the barriers of language and became famous all over the world. In Europe, a lot of people are like "yeah right i don't like rap that much but Eminem is cool!" and that proofs that people are ignorant because a lot of rappers are good too, but that also proofs that when they hear Rap, they hear Eminem.

Then, Eminem is the most-selling rapper EVER. EVER EVER EVER. Now he must have sold something like 90 000 000 records worldwide, and that's a lot considering the controversy and his lyrics.
I mean, everyone's not gonna buy a cd where someone says something like that :
"see what hurts me the most is you won't
admit you was wrong, bitch, do your song, keep tellin' yourself that you was a mom"
and that's on a single.

Tupac and Biggie had the biggest influence in the USA i think, a lot of people think that they "invented" rap though :facepalm

Jay-Z is not that famous in europe like he is in USA i think. Same for the other rappers.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how i see it.

In terms of popularity? Unquestionably, yes. Main-stream hip-hop exists in great part thanks to Eminem I'd say.

Yes, without a doubt.

I think it's very easy to forget to what degree due to... a decline in artistic vigor in some sense, like... 2Pac and Biggie were taken out when they were just getting into it, arguably at their peak...

You never saw a decline in them because you never got a chance to. But Eminem has surpassed any other rapper, in any aspect and like I say, in recent years - it's very easy to forget that, but when you examine it and think about it seriously - and anybody who was alive in his peak and who is smart enough to know what he did (artistically), knows he's the king.

If people think Kanye is making noise now, he's not even... He's like Barnie the fucking dinasour in comparison to the amount of balls Em had / the boundaries he pushed at HIS peak. Kanye is just doing more visually etc.

And I'm not bashing Kanye btw, I'm a big fan of Mr. West, my point is - even the best right now, even people you think are extreme or big in recent times, aren't a fucking scratch on Eminem.

Of course they did!!!!! I'm not saying that before 99 only few white ppl listen this music, but after Em so many white ppl start listen rap a couse of him, and i'm not talking about "white teenie bopper girls". Unconsciously or not he made the rap music a lil bit more commercial. For me for example, TRSS was the first rap song that i ever heard, yeah i was only 9 years old at that time but i know ppl that start listen rap with Em. And c'mon man, you're from europe, you know how populer he made this music here (Welll you're from UK so maybe not so much but in east europe, where i'm from, he's one of the first rapper that were populer)

And i said black music (rap) not black artists - this is two different thinks. A lot of white ppl listen MJ and he was black (eh not exactly but you know what i'm saying)

I really dont't know, Em broke allkinds of barriers and is one of the first mainstream emcees to prove that rap isn't all about money and women, but I think the influence Rakim had is unparrelelled simply because pretty much every rapper to this day is influenced by him. Easiest way I can put it, Rakim had a bigger influence on the hip hop community, whereas Em had a bigger impact on a wider scale
