I really dont't know, Em broke allkinds of barriers and is one of the first mainstream emcees to prove that rap isn't all about money and women, but I think the influence Rakim had is unparrelelled simply because pretty much every rapper to this day is influenced by him. Easiest way I can put it, Rakim had a bigger influence on the hip hop community, whereas Em had a bigger impact on a wider scale

This is a good post..Rakim was the teacher but my point to give Eminem the "bigger impact" is that made Hip-Hop a giant all over the world and many people learned and loved Ηip-Hop because of Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

Em may of introduced white people around the world to it, because he reached more people, including America - but this guy / like others, was seemingly implying Eminem is the sole reason white people know about rap music, as if millions didn't already listen lmao.

I got news for you, most white people don't buy music according to skin colour. So just like a ton of black people thought 2Pac and Redman were amazing, so did a ton of white people. Eminem introduced it to a wider audience period - INCLUDING a wider BLACK audience. But people need to stop defining success, character and audiences by colour anyway. It's a big, fail.

i voted Tupac & Biggie ... because they are two people who both played a major role in the entire rap game, one from the east and one from the west. Eminem is only one person, and sure he himself did a massive amount for rap music and its fan base, i think 2pac and Biggie together have had more of an impact.

Em is one of the best, but no. Run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, Eric B & Rakim, Pac, Biggie. They changed things, The Chronic changed things. Much bigger impact.

Let's be honest A LOT of white people bought Eminem's shit because he was more relatable to Pac, Biggie, etc. He took an interesting spin on the material he rapped about, but many people like to believe he was doing something innovative in Hip Hop. A lot of topics he rapped about was done before in different degrees, and let's act like he didn't get more attention from the white population because of his skin color.

I guess if you're talking about impact and pushing Hip Hop to become more main stream than yeah, but innovative ness no. Rakim was more of a teacher, and I'd say Biggie, Pac, and Nas influenced more rappers than he has yet...
