Quick question on kanye

Postby westsidekreidy » Dec 23rd, '10, 19:01

Whats the big deal with his album? Like the source gave it five mics but to me it's not great...I've listened to a ton of way better albums so why's the different? Kanye is on the album for like 20 minutes total, rest is features/samples. He's had three albums better then this MBDTF, shit don't make sense to me. I'm a big kanye fan too, i have all his albums besides 808.

I just don't see the big deal, it's not a masterpiece by a ways, so why is it so rated? Anyone feel me on that?

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

Definitely agree. I've listened to the album and while it's very good, in my opinion, it's very overrated as well.

You are gonna miss out on a near classic because someone on a message board said it sucks? k.

Anything 'different' that's bad (808) gets more criticism than it should cos it could've been avoided.. Anything 'different' that's good (MBDTF) gets more praise than it should cos the artist took a risk.
My Top 5 (in no order)-

Biggie Smalls
Royce Da 5'9"

This album reminds me of Stankonia , loved by critics but not a huge success with hip hop heads...Personally its the best album I've heard in ages
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Well I'm a big Kanye fan and like the album but agree and have said it since it dropped, the over-rating / reaction to this from critics is absolutely absurd.

It's not even close to a masterpiece, it doesn't have enough underlaying direction or artistic aim beyond indulgence, to be a masterpiece. 808s is closer to a masterpiece than it, and I don't say that to majorly insult 808s as that is a fucking good album. Despite people's face-value perception(s) of it.

MBDTF is just really good, but there isn't a single revolutionary or massively original idea on the entire album, so how can be what they're pretending it is. The music is great yes, we know... but Kanye's lyricism... I actually think he's underrated as a lyricist but didn't show much growth in that department on here and had many better rapping spots on Graduation.

Aside from the ambitious production and of course, visual representation... it's a pretty standard affair. It's just Kanye's passion which bleeds through, you can feel how much he cares about every inch of it. But passion alone doesn't make it a classic.

Yeezy taught me: Drown out Raekwon with bitchin' left channel faux-solo.
"Hyperwarp to Automator's crib and light the torch
They can't fight the force
Victory is ours once we strike the source
Enterprising wise men look to the horizon
Thinking more capitalism is the wisdom
and imprison all citizens, empower with rhythm
We keep the funk alive by talking with idioms"
