Since it took a movie for jay-Z to return to his old self

with the "American Gangster" album, do you think it can do the same for Eminem with Southpaw?
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

People don't go back. As much as people want to, it doesn't happen. Jay Z is not his old self. No one, NO ONE goes back, EVER. People might make new music that is as good as their old(not really, that never happens) but they dont go back.

I cant ever think of any artist that their eighth cd was their best work. Shit just doesn't happen. And it's not going to. Accept Em for what he is now or find someone else to stan.,....

ANYWAYS....I compared Eminem to a washed up baseball player. He hits a home run every once in a while, but mostly strikes out. THERE IS NO GOING BACK. LET IT GOOO

Actually, Tupac made his best work as his career progressed. Tupac's 4th album was his best, and then his 6th album topped it. Then he died and they released his new shit with new washed up beats.

Meh, haven't listened to the whole thing. The Blueprint 3 sucked and Kingdom Come sucked, everything I've heard from American Gangster hasn't really made an impression. He just sucks now. He should have stayed retired after The Black Album.

Even in his prime Jay-Z was pretty hit or miss...his albums in general were good but had several skip tracks and several songs that were good/great.

"yo yo yo, my mom sent me up to the store with a food stamp
for a pack of cigarettes and a book at the news stand
two dudes ran up who jumped out of a blue van
i looked down at the ground and picked up a huge branch
i swung it at the first dude
the other one hit em
seen it snap so fast it look like it broke before it hit him
so he tried to rush
i swept his legs, pinned him and bit him
he came back with sticks and seven dudes screamin "GET HIM"
i grabbed one, lit him on fire pinned him and bit him
the next one, gave me his shoes like the didnt fit him
one by one i just kept droppin them in a rhythm
then i woke up, swingin in the middle of the kitchen
Damn"

Nah, those days aren't gone. You could've selected something better. Those are ok Em lyrics at best. 2 syllable rhyming. I'd say THESE days are gone

The final problem is solved
By throwin' sulphuric acid all over your back and seein' your spinal column dissolve
Droppin' bodies like it was domino season
My phenominal legion'll shoot out your fuckin' abdominal region
Slim Shady, responsible for your permanent stillness
Just escaped from the hospital with terminal illness

what's Ellen DeGeneres
Have that I don't? Are you tellin' me tenderness?
Well I can be as gentle and as smooth as a gentleman
Gimmie my Ventolin inhaler and two Xenadrine
And I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner then
Nail her, baby say hello to my little friend
Brit, forget K-Fed, let's cut out the middleman
Forget him or you're gonna end up in the hospital again
And this time it won't be for the Ritalin binge
Forget them other men, girl pay them little attention
And little did I mention that Jennifer's in love with me John Mayer, so sit on the bench
Man, I swear them other guys you give 'em an inch
They take a mile, they got style, but it isn't Slim

I'm fired up so fire up the lighter and the dro
Better hold on a little tighter here I go
Flows tighter, hot headed as ghostrider
Cold hearted as spiderman throwin a spider in the snow
So ya better get lower than Flo-Rida inside of a lowrider with no tires in the hole
Why am I like this? why is winter cold
Why is it when I talk I'm so biased to the hoes
Listen dog Christmas is off this is as soft as it gets
This isnt golf this is a blisterin' assault
Those are your wounds this is the salt
So get lost
Shit dissin me is just like pissin off the wizard of oz
Wrap a lizard in gauze beat you in the jaws with it
Grab the scissors and saws and
Cut out your livers gizzards and balls
Throw you in the middle of the ocean in the blizzard with jaws
So sip piss like sizzurp through a straw
Then describe how it tasted like dessert to us all
Got the gall to make chris piss in his draws
Tickling him go to his grave, skip him and visit his dog

I probably missed some.

And not to mention how he keeps that "is" sound through the last part of the verse.

He's not going to go back to his old self because people can't do that, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Him doing this movie will probably the be the first time he takes a break from his music for a little while. He might write some while doing the movie but he'll be pretty consumed with the movie if he's a major role in it and that means he won't be able to focus 100% on his music. It will be very interesting to see what kind of outlook he has on his music after the movie is all wrapped up. Maybe doing the movie will bring him back to his roots in terms of subject matter and inspire a new direction.
