I can`t belive how much stupidity can be found here. Pop music is "i love you...but you love her..and it huuuuuuuuuurts...wouhohohohoh...baby...wouhohohohohooou". And that`s about it. So how can you put Eminem, ONE-OF-THE-GREATEST-FUCKING-LYRICIST-EVER in that genre. Just couse Rhianna sings one chourse!? Oh my God. :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm.
Em sampled Aerosmith. Should we call him a rock band?
If Liz Rodrigues or Dima Rae sang on LTWYL, nobody would say shit. Rhianna did a great job, song is great, and it is hip hop. HIP FUCKING HOP.

eminem said this in his book " as an underground artist startin out i never wanted to sell out, but im sure there r fans who think i have. to them i say, i still love you. i dont feel like i made music that sold me out. i made pop joints, yes, but my lyrics and flow and command of the beat were always pure hiphop. i was spittin the same. the only difference was that a lot more poeple where checkin me out and supporting my art. i hope u all understand that i cant control who likes me or my music"
anyway, as long as the beat is hip-hop i really don't care about the chorus

AC/DC had one of the best selling albums of 2008. Soooooo pop.

Having said that, there are pop songs on Recovery but it doesn't make it less of a hip hop album. If you look at what was released in the early 80's it's the same thing. Pop/electro/funk is a part of the roots of the whole genre.

:facepalm at people still calling Recovery a pop album
Double :facepalm at people calling Eminem pop. This is EMINEM, the exact opposite of pop, who happens to make good enough music to be extremely popular as well. But the music he makes...no pop, and anyone who says it is needs to do some research on music and find out what pop music (the genre) is. Not POPULAR music, you all know what I'm talking about, so don't come back with "EM IZ POP BCUZ HEZ POPULAR!"

There isn't a single pop song on any Eminem album.

There are shit hip-hop songs on Eminem albums, there are corny hip-hop songs; misguided hip-hop songs, watered down hip-hop songs. But not a single pop song.

Catchy isn't pop, corny isn't pop. Soulja Boy is terrible but he's still hip-hop. The quality of the music doesn't dictate the genre, the MUSIC dictates the genre. The format, the execution.

Regardless of the quality of his music, the core principals have remained; he rhymes words, over drum loops, he uses metaphor and simile to a poetic standard, he's ironic... all these things make him not only hip-hop but an acquired taste. And any music that is an acquired taste is the OPPOSITE of pop. By definition pop is broad and compromised, Eminem is anti-broad.

It is possible to combine hip hop and pop. Did anybody say that there are songs on the album that are only pop?

Pure hip hop can't really be defined cus the genre has taken elements from other genres since day one: Jazz, funk, electro, blues, rock etc.
