at people still calling Recovery a pop album
at people calling Eminem pop. This is EMINEM, the exact opposite of pop, who happens to make good enough music to be extremely popular as well. But the music he makes...no pop, and anyone who says it is needs to do some research on music and find out what pop music (the genre) is. Not POPULAR music, you all know what I'm talking about, so don't come back with "EM IZ POP BCUZ HEZ POPULAR!"

Having said that, there are pop songs on Recovery but it doesn't make it less of a hip hop album. If you look at what was released in the early 80's it's the same thing. Pop/electro/funk is a part of the roots of the whole genre.

There isn't a single pop song on any Eminem album.
There are shit hip-hop songs on Eminem albums, there are corny hip-hop songs; misguided hip-hop songs, watered down hip-hop songs. But not a single pop song.
Catchy isn't pop, corny isn't pop. Soulja Boy is terrible but he's still hip-hop. The quality of the music doesn't dictate the genre, the MUSIC dictates the genre. The format, the execution.
Regardless of the quality of his music, the core principals have remained; he rhymes words, over drum loops, he uses metaphor and simile to a poetic standard, he's ironic... all these things make him not only hip-hop but an acquired taste. And any music that is an acquired taste is the OPPOSITE of pop. By definition pop is broad and compromised, Eminem is anti-broad.
