My top ten favorite Hip Hop songs...

Postby mcZu » Dec 26th, '10, 03:03

This was really hard to do, because I like a lot of songs and a lot of songs are top ten worthy. So I went with my all time favorites. It's in no order. I still feel like it's missing a lot of songs, but I can't cramp 80 songs in a top ten...

The Message is my all time favorite Nas song. The Sting sample is ear-gasmic, the lyrics are brilliant, and the overall feel is nothing less than stupendous.

Incredible lyrics, together with the guitar and her beautifull voice, it makes a display of pure Hip Hop and artistic purity. Incredible artist, and an incredible song.

A brilliant Tupac song, the song speaks for itself, no elaboration needed.

You just have to include Sing For The Moment, a brilliant display of lyricism. One of Eminem's best songs.

One of my favorite artists, one of his best songs in my opinion. Ten minutes of straight, pure, emotional lyricism, incredible song.

Another one of my all time favorite artists. Lupe Fiasco is just brilliant, and this song gives us a lil' more insight into who the man really is, while being lyrical, of course. Incredible song.

A conversation between God and Joe Budden himself. Thorough, and thought-out, conversation, an incredible concept, and it's nothing less than perfectly executed.

One of Nas' incredible, creative, concept songs. Just listen to it and you'll understand why I think it's brilliant.

Pure emotion, incredible lyricism, what else do you want?

A heartfelt, well executed, concept: a letter to his unborn child. This proves, again, how great Tupac was.
"Truth is limitless in its range; if you drop a 'T' and look at it in reverse, it could hurt."
- Lupe Fiasco

Cool lists.

Ironically, The Message is my favourite Nas song (I think...it changes a lot) and The Way I am is my favourite Eminem song.
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".

Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
Eminem - Hailie's Song
Nas - One Mic
Eminem - Kim
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid In Full

Can't really do a top 10 because 5-10 would just be songs I just like, my top 5 are songs that have changed or impacted my life.

No particular order

Verbal Intercourse-Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface

Many consider Nas to take this song, and arguably his best verse. Though I do like everyone's performance in that song equally.

Hell on Earth Mobb Deep

This song has Prodigy's best verse, even without it this song would still be great, but the last verse pushes this from great to classic. After a perfomance like that P had nowhere to go but down as an mc.

Madness Deltron 3030

I would say Del tha Funkee Homosapien, but that would be unjust to Dan the automator as the production is just as good as Del's performance. Plus the sample is one of the best I've heard.

Valhalla K-os

Many might not even consider this Hip Hop, but he does a wonderful job at blending genres, and is a good thing to come out of Canada unlike Drake or even worse Bieber.

N.i.g.g.a.s Bleed Biggie

Probably Biggie's best storytelling song, the way he paints a picture is one of a kind. It's almost like watching a movie the way he conveys it.

Impossible Wu tang

Everybody rips it from RZA's great diction, to Ghostface's amazing storytelling which he shows.

Family Business Kanye West

One of my favorite Ye songs, everything from the mic performance to the beats was great, even though many don't consider Kanye that great of an emcee this song was great.

Rock Bottom Eminem

One of Eminem's best song, which he showcases excellent use of multies, wordplay, and displays great emotion on the mic, you could feel his hunger in the song. My favorite personal Eminem song.

Street Life Az and Half A Mill

One of my favorite Az verses, he doesn't seem to reach for multies and he flow naturally, half a mill did alright too (r.i.p.)

Moment of Truth Guru

Rip that is all.

SOME of my favorites:
The Way I Am - Eminem
Sing For The Moment - Eminem
Can't C Me - Tupac
Jesus Walks - Kanye West
Daydreamin' - Lupe Fiasco
DontGetIt - Lil Wayne (IDK what it is about this, half of it's just talking, but it's great)
Renegade - Jay-Z (Not just cuz Em's on it, Jay's verses are amazing too)
Auqemini - Outkast
Shadows On The Road - Tech N9ne
I Can- Nas

I just tried to pull out a few songs I love by different artists. Like, there are a dozens of Eminem songs that I listen to more than the other songs I listed. And I left out tons of amazing artists. This is kind of a sampler...
