Sage Francis ~ li(f)e

Don't know what everyone on this board thinks of him... But, he is one of my favorite rappers next to em.

His new album li(f)e is nothing short of a masterpiece if you haven't had a chance to hear it yet. I suggest checking it out. Some of my favorite songs on the album are: love the lie, i was a zero, and three sheets to the wind... and of course best of times which is fucking EPIC (shown below)

I wasn't impressed with this album. I'm a huge sage fan and this didn't do it for me. The songs you mentioned are good. Little Houdini was the best song on the album, by far. "The baby stays" is also a good song.

The album was decent but not up to bar with human the death dance or a healthy distrust. Especially not a healthy distrust.

None of the songs on this album (minus Little Houdini) compete with songs like Sea Lion, Escape Artist, Slow Down Ghandi, agony in her body, etc etc. Every song on A Healthy Distrust is fucking epic.

Block,

I agree that the album is not the same as a healthy distrust and personal journals... But it's sorta like comparing recovery to marshall matters LP...

It's 2 entirely different styles all together..

I can understand why some would maybe think this album is not up to par with his others... But I think it's just that you haven't given it enough of a chance... It took me listening to the album a bunch of times before I realized how brilliant it is... and seriously the lyrics are fucking incredible if you really listen to them...

This was the same with A Healthy Distrust which took me several listens before I finally fell in love with it.

I am not trying to argue with you as everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I am just sayin u should give the album another shot...

sure the style has changed but artists do continue evolving and I think this is the most innovative album sage has ever done... ESP considering the musical influences on the album and style in which it is presented.

I don't like him, but I can't put my finger on it. I don't like his talking flow, I don't like his voice, I don't like his demeanor, I don't like his look (that lyrical-white-stocky-rapper-with-the-glasses-buzz-and-goatee look), and I don't like his name. "Sage Francis"? Sounds like a kid who got beat up in gym. Complete pussy name IMO (I know Francis is his last name). Why not call himself Percy Eugene or Herman Clarence? I know I'm being petty, but I don't like the dude...

Don't get me wrong, I like the album. It's on my playlist in my phone. I just don't think it's up to par with his other work. There's no doubt his lyricism is still prevelant. I'm not saying Sage 'fell off' or anything absurd like that. I just can't get into alot of the songs on it. It could be the very heavy anti-religious message he's portraying in it. Or the grunge sound that I don't like from him. I just think it's hard to top something like A Healthy Distrust.

In part, it's reminiscent of spoonfull's "Keep the change" EP, as far as branching out to different styles/sounds is concerned.

@Slimshady I suppose he should call him Young F or Lil Sage? Will that make him sound more badass for you? His look is unique, as well. Well, unless you count soul khan who bit sage's whole steez. You're entitled to your opinion, however ridiculous it may be.

Haha nah, those names are worse. I don't want him to sound badass, I just hate his name. That's why I said I was being petty, I know that stuff doesn't really matter. He just rubs me the wrong way, I don't like him.

And as for looks, he reminds me of MC Serch or Iron Solomon, both of whom I dislike.

There are plenty of rappers I like more than Francis who are less talented than him, but I don't like him.
