Lady Gaga was actually the 1st best selling. Recovery was the 2nd.

man .. i wish everyone would stop fking blaming everything on pills...

sure em has blamed it on pills... BUT THATS NO FUCKING EXCUSE.

I've done just about ALL of the pills and drugs em has... and sorry, while it does effect him in some ways.... It is NOT the reason why hes declined as much as he has...I wish you people would stop fucking blaming it on drugs.

For some reason, whenever anyone mentions em declining, they seem to also believe "oh he mustve started using pills then". It has been going hand in hand.

"em started declining in 2002! he mustve started using pills then!!"
or
"em started using pills in 2002! thats must be when he started declining"

NO

Thats not how drugs work. Unless you've been there, you have no idea. I've said it before and im saying it again.

So sorry, but you can think and believe what you want, but the only way that the pills WOULD effect him is in full blown addiction... meaning, wake up > need drugs > need drugs > go to sleep > repeat. THATS obvious when that happened... after proof died, after encore... he lost the hunger, he lost hope, the fire, lost any desire to live basically..

Think what you want about encore, but he was definitely not in full blown addiction, not even CLOSE. He didnt lack any lyrical ability, he didnt lack flow... he lacked substance... lacked content. He basically had just come from having arguably two of the greatest hiphop albums ever back to back... was on top of the world... what else could he do?

He didn't take encore seriously... he threw together a bunch of random funny/humor songs... After TES, MMLP, and SSLP what else can you do?? Between those albums, and all the mixtape shit with all the beefs he had.... he basically rapped himself out... he had nothing left to talk about.

So after encore, then after proof died.... shit went down the tubes... he lost all hope, and desire to live a life... he was in a very very deep hole, he turned to pills to deal with the depression, and the pills just buried him deeper, and escalated things... It was a never ending cycle.

Of course the pills escalated and made things worse... they are definitely NOT all to blame for his decline... there are many many other factors, but depression is by far the #1 culprit.

When you are depressed, you are NOT yourself.. your mind is in a different place, drugs just added to the equation

BUT the trick is this: Depressed? take pills > run out of pills ? -> depressed again > take pills ...now you NEED pills just to be normal.

When you dont have pills? depressed as fuck.. way worse than you were BEFORE you took pills

Eminem 1999 Goofy as Fuck - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rnd6rHYgYk

Eminem 2008 Goofy as Fuck - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC6Qbp0nip0

Eminem has ALWAYS been like this, also calm in many interviews though.

He HASN'T declined or got worse either :o lyrically we know he's gotten better! His music just no longer has that shock value. I know that people like you only listened to the SSLP and MMLP because of the hype an shock value lol....this is somethine he will NEVER recaputre. But that's obvious.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT WHEN HE USED TO SAY THINGS LIKE 'HATE GAYS' OR 'SMOKE WEED' OR 'TAKE SHROOMS' OR 'KILL KIM' OR 'MOMS A BITCH'....PEOPLE WOULD MAKE IT HUGE NEWS AND GIVE HIM MASSIVE EXPOSURE.

Now if he say's he will chop miley cyrus up into pieces on a track, people don't flinch, they just sort of no it's Slim and they know it is not near true now.

You need to explain yourself better anyway, coz I have wrote this and no longer no what I was arguing about :D He's no longer 26 year old rebel, no shock value, less news coverage, loss of interest from some people, million other reasons people on this forum will give you. His music still rocks without this stuff though! So can't agree with you their.

He has released some great tunes recently and some not so...same as 10 years ago. We all know your only Eminem track on your iPod is 'Loose Yourself' anyway! O.J

I think he means that he wasn't so addicted that it would have such an impact on his music at that point.

"Think what you want about encore, but he was definitely not in full blown addiction, not even CLOSE."

I don't know shit about drugs though, so I'm staying out of this discussion. I'm just trying to clear things up a bit.

I don't think it started in 2002, not at all. Take a look at what he had released in 2003. He released Nail in the Coffin and The Sauce which were both fire, Patiently Waiting, We As Americans, Stimulate. Not to mention the Obie features.

His lyrical decline started in 2004 in my opinion. I mean then we got songs like Ass Like That which you just can't compare to anything released in 2002-2003.
