Recovery feels forced and somewhat rushed (now, to me). Like he felt he had to prove himself to the fans when really I don't think it was necessary. This isn't to say that Recovery wasn't necessary because there's some solid tracks on there. I was listening to 3am for the first time in months and boy was that mother fucker on point. And I'll admit that I'm one of the many people that criticised Relapse initially without taking the time to appreciate its technical makeup. This is why now Relapse is a better album than Recovery. For me anyway.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Except those punches feel more like a timid metro-sexual man's slaps to the chest.

Anyways, Recovery felt a little underwhelming for me...I dunno. He was on fire in terms of technical skill in Relapse, all he really needed to do to get his fans back was change direction in content. After Drop The World & Forever, I felt like he was going to do that with Recovery and it would be up there with "The Eminem Show". Then Airplanes 2 came out, where he was a little less on-point, but still good. Then Not Afraid came out, and I was like "okay, this is just the first single, its supposed to be like that". Then I heard the full album and...I dunno, I guess it just bores me :coffee:

Agreed.

Yes Relapse is better lyrically, but Recovery has its moments lyrically with So Bad, On Fire, GTC and Untitled just to name a few. The content on Recovery has much more replay value for me.

Back to the point of the thread, when Recovery was released it was just what I wanted to hear from an Eminem album. It has its funny/lyrical tracks, but it also has the more serious, introspective songs which is what I love to hear from him.

Well, you're a clever one.
I see people liking Relapse, but a classic? C'mon son. There's way too many average/bad songs on there for it to be anywhere near a classic. I like the album but it was definitely underwhelming.

Anyway, I loved Recovery then and I love it now. The recent collabs have been quite shit though.

We Made You & Crack A Bottle are enough to make me believe Relapse is not a classic or anything past great.

Yeah I know, it's still worrying though.

Lello18 wrote:well everyone has their own opinion. to me the only non-classy song on relapse was old time's sake and it's still decent

I came off sounding like more of a dick than I meant to lol, there's just certain parts of Relapse that stick out like a sore thumb to me. That kinda ruined the album a bit for me.

I loved that song tbh. The ones I didn't like were We Made You, Beautiful & Crack A Bottle. Ironically, all 3 of them are singles.

Well, Relapse and Recovery are named perfectly, and interestingly so because I think they're named after two things that happened to him. Relapse is a story, chronicling his drug addict and all the things it made him think. Recovery is named so because after Relapse he moves on from the drugs and...he basically becomes fully "recovered", despite what you feel about the album. Relapse feels like an Eminem album because he raps as if he's still on the drugs, and Recovery feels like a step forward, a new direction, and we see Em "fully recovered"

Recovery feels exactly how it sounds...a Recovery. Both albums are GREAT pieces of work, and both are necessary in his catalog

Just my humble opinion:
SSLP>MMLP>RECOVERY>TES>RELAPSE
(sslp and mmlp are both perfect, just different styles)

And I would like to think that Encore never happened.

like Indiana Jones 4, Zorro 2, and Alien Resurrection. Never happened. :shakehead:
