Yeah, the reviews in Slant are IMO a prime example of everything that's wrong with a certain kind of criticism. I linked to a review for TES from the same source (I think it's always the same reviewer) some time ago in a discussion, and even though it's positive it's worth absolutely nothing because it's painfully clear that the reviewer just doesn't GET.ANYTHING.AT.ALL. White America supposedly ends with a "safe apologia".

I think it's a mixture of already existing prejudices (he obviously thinks Eminem is a stupid low-life and vastly inferior to him and the review just serves as a means to congratulate himself on his own awesomeness), only wanting these prejudices confirmed and not paying attention to what's actually going on on the albums, political correctness gone amok (not in the sense that being racist, sexist or homophobic should be tolerated, but that even art ABOUT these topics is either forbidden or only allowed in the form of "Don't try this at home" PSAs) and thinking himself smarter than the material even though the songs are obviously way over his head. How's that for irony?

If you are as popular as Eminem, and you are the world's highest selling artist of the decade, and you have sold over 90 million albums, and you have a house full of awards, and a large loyal, dedicated fanbase, inevitably you are going to have a lot of haters too. It goes with the territory.

Here's one criticism: While he uses words like "bitch" and "faggot" incessantly, you'll never find Eminem uttering even a benign "*****." He's essentially hip-hop's houseguest and would never bite the nipple he suckles from.

I stopped reading reviews when Relapse came out. The biggest music magazine here thanked Dr. Dre for not letting Eminem use Fruity Loops on the album.

A lot of critics are just trying to promote themselves by having all kind of weird opinions that they somehow think will make them sound knowledgeable.

I wouldn't even be surprised if it is all about not losing face. I mean, if they have critizesed an artist's first two albums, they won't praise the third one. Even if they have changed their opinion.
