As much as I love Rakim, I just think Eminem's first three had more to offer than the albums he did with Eric B. (even Follow the leader which is my favourite album). They both had insanely good rhyming but lyrically Eminem was way more versatile. Flows were better too.

He set the stanard - that doesn't mean nobody can't be better or just as good. Illmatic set the standard back in the days too but there have been rappers since who has proven themselves to be just as good rhymers (or at least close). Both Rakim and Nas are legends and insanely good but they aint untouchable just because they were a part of scene when hip hop peaked. A lot of people seem to think that (nostalgia and all that).

Comparing Kanye West to Eminem is like comparing soda to beer. They are totally different type of artists. I don't think anybody thinks Eminem is a better producer than him nor do I think anybody thinks Kanye West is a better rapper than Eminem.

lol,are you serious?Sorry but so what if he set the standard? It doesnt mean he`s the best at it.Rakim is not even close to Em skill-wise,not even close.

When you give me Rakim song thats skill-wise better then this we can talk again.

Hey everybody.

Lello18, i kinda agree with everything you said. But IMO, there's no GOAT. There's so much different rap style, Horrorcore, funny rap, bubblegum rap, dirty south rap, gangsta rap, emotional rap, storytelling rap.. And there is no MC who is the best in ALL theses categories. It's impossible, there's rappers who are better in storytelling, but who sucks at making good promo for the album with a "commercial" type song.
(I know it's stupid but nowadays, if you want to sell, you gotta have "a catchy hook" cuz no one cares about the sylabbililes on a single.)

So a lot of rappers have great skills, but are still "unknown" by the youth. Just look at Nas, he's one of the GOAT but he's still not THAT famous.
That's the point of singles like The Real Slimshady, Without me or My name is. We can think the whole album is gonna be some bubblegum rap and just random lines, but no.
Having My name is and Rock Bottom on the same album is something crazy. People who don't like his singles, still can find themselves in other tracks in the album.
People who don't like serious em, can laugh a lot. That's why Eminem is so good. His albums are for everyone.

Im not saying he's the one to do that, but IMO he does it better than anyone else.

Ps: Can someone tell me what are Jay best albums? I've never liked him a lot but i think i'm gonna check his stuff, because i dont understand why people always say he's one of the greatest.

Thanks :y:

Nas can not be surpassed, he just can't.
Even the oh so praised PRIME Eminem doesn't match Nas.

Illmatic, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes > SSLP, MMLP, TES

If "I Am... The Autobiography" had been released, it would've been WITHOUT A DOUBT the greatest hip-hop album of all time.
Scratch that, the greatest MUSIC album of all time.

Peace.

It's the song that made me a Rakim fan and introduced me to him. One of my favorite songs on the 8 mile OST.
