The Top Hip Hop Powerhouse Labels/Camps

Postby FreeSpeech » Jan 12th, '11, 23:17

I'm not splitting hairs defining all the sublabels like Young vs. Cash Money etc.
These are the labels that are true powerhouses, in terms of roster popularity/talent. I'm keeping it to labels with mainstream appeal, I love Strange Music but they aren't making this list. I'm not listing all the artists on each label, just the biggest.

Shady/Aftermath: Em, Slaughterhouse, Dre, 50, Yelawolf, D12, G-Unit

Roc Nation/GOOD Music: Jay-Z, Kanye, J Cole, Common, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Mos Def

Young/Cash Money: Lil Wayne, Birdman, Drake, Nicki Minaj, T-Pain,

Any other powerhouses? Try to only include coherent labels that are run like a family. Ex: Def Jam has TONS of huge artists, but you would never know Nas was on the same label as Ludacris without looking it up. Everyone knows who is a Young Money artist or a Shady artist.

Grand Hustle has B.o.B and T.I.

Other than that, you pretty much named them all.

I specifically pointed out that I was discussing mainstream labels, because that's what people recognize, and then you have to douche it up by throwing in Copywrite's label. Yeah man you're cool, great undergound taste, too bad that label has 0 hype/popularity and doesn't fit with this topic at all. Look at the label's roster and attempt to explain how it is a powerhouse, pretentious prick.

the only ones in CM/YM camp that are prominent are Nicki Minaj, Wayne, and Drake....the other ones, no matter what Wayne fans tell you, are losers and jokes. I'd say the most prominent is Dej Jam and its affiliates

Birdman and T-Pain (Especially T-Pain) both get moderate-alot of Radio play. That's why he didn't point out Tyga, Gudda Gudda and the other faggots.

Exactly.

And Def Jamp doesn't count as a cohesive camp, they are just an umbrella label. You would never know Nas and Lil Scrappy are on the same label...
