50 Cent Confirms "Black Magic" Shelved

50 confirms that his much-discussed project has been nixed.

50 Cent confirmed previous indications that his album, Black Magic, has been shelved.

The follow-up to his 2009 album, Before I Self Destruct, was originally reported to have rock and dance influences, but not it seems fans will never get to listen to it.

“I moved ‘Black Magic’, because it’s a total artist’s album. It was something that I just wanted to do, so I went in and recreationally made a full-bodied piece of work," said the Queens emcee to Redbulletin magazine.

50 gave hints on a change in musical direction with earlier songs, like his Timbaland-produced song, "Ayo Technology," which featured Justin Timberlake.

“I gave myself a new concept, so now it’s in the vault,” added Fif.

50 didn't rule out the possibility of fans getting to hear any of the work from the album. “But you can build another album out of that material that you put to the side.”

He's no longer contractually obligated to Interscope, he has finished his 4 album deal. There's one album left and that's a greatest hits album, but the deal is Interscope has the rights to release that whenever they want, 50 no longer has to be on the label.

At this moment he is still on Interscope's books, and they want to give a new deal but he's holding out. Mostly because he can get his own independent deal where he recoups the majority of the money, and because Def Jam is heavily pursuing him as well (rumors that he'll even replace LA Reid as President) with Sha Money XL (50's childhood friend) having a very high exec position there (reason why Rick Ross has shut his mouth).

Anyway, this Black Magic stuff is pretty old. It was like done a month after BISD, and that was 18 months a go. I like that he's finally recorded an album over a period of time this time around, first time he's done this since the GRODT soundtrack which was great. BISD was a great street album, but before that Curtis was done in a week, and that's just stupid. He's finally interested again.

No, he copies Em in a lot of aspects. He did the accent on Psycho and some of the songs on BISD. He did a movie loosely based on his life. Kid sucks, so he copies Em....fuck off if you dont agree

BISD did not suck, it was probably the most 50 Cent album 50 cent ever made. Slightly, that was a little of the problem though.

He didn't have big beats, didn't have big hooks, didn't have big features, didn't have out-of-zone type songs for him, didn't have any radio songs. It was pure street shit, which is what everyone was asking for.

Just as Relapse was a very Eminem core audience type album, BISD was the same for 50's core audience. The difference here was Eminem is bigger and it was his comeback after years gone, whereas 50's leaked 34 days before it's release date which destroyed it commercially.

Within time, it'll be a cult classic, I have no doubts. General perceptions ruin its chances for people to acknowledge it differently right now. It (Relapse and BISD) almost remind me how Scarface was at the box office when it was released.
