God's Son - Nas' best album?

I think so. More than any other album (and I love a bunch of Nas' albums), this is the one that "does it" for me. From beginning to end, this is just a beautiful album. The term "lyricist" gets thrown around way too often, but here Nas sounds like a true poet. His flow and delivery are relaxed and very natural, but he still sounds full of passion and energy. The theme/content is undoubtedly the best in any of his albums.

Production wise, I think this is my favorite along with HHID. The production is consistent throughout the album. There are many memorable beats, and having Nas work with 2 of my favorite producers (Alchemist and Eminem) was like a dream come true.

There are just so many excellent songs and concepts in this album it's hard to list the best. "Thugz Mansion" is a fucking powerful song with incredible verses from Nas and 2Pac. "Last Ni*ga alive" is like a more mature "Ether". "Dance" is a deep, emotional song that manages to be very uplifting even with the sad theme.

It's hard to find faults with this album. Probably the only song that's not very strong is "Zone Out" and that's because Jungle, like always, has a crap verse. Other than that, this album is near perfect.

I had this album for a while, but since I loved it so much, I had to go and buy an official copy. Looked on every shop and couldn't find it, so I got it online and have been listening to it almost religiously.

Discuss.

It may be his most underrated album but no way is it his best. Illmatic is his most famous and Stillmatic, in my opinion, is his best. I actually liked the production which people point out as his main flaw in most albums. Every track brought something great to the table. His Cormega diss was a great song not just a great diss. You're Da Man has one of my favorite quotes "Puffin so much lye// I saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky//".

Arguing about which is the best between Nas albums is hard though. I don't see myself changing anyone's opinions with a race this close.

Dance is the most powerful, meaningful, sad track I have ever heard i think. It's the only song that can makes me chill.. Everytime i listen to it, my eyes get full of tears lol.

Co-Sign. Illmatic imo, is Nas' most consistent album. Unlike the rest of his albums, every track is pretty much classic and replayable. By this, I don't necessarily mean the songs are his best, but there's always a couple tracks on each album that are either "Meh. I'll skip this". Illmatic doesn't have that.

Stillmatic has some of Nas' best songs & highlights of his career in it, but it suffers from the same fall I just pointed out.

It Was Written places somewhere on the same level as God's Son or just above, probably because I haven't played through IWW all the way yet. There are some absolutely amazing songs on both albums though.

But illmatic has so little songs so... Still think that's his greatest album though.

I like untitled the best after illmatic, the rest are too hard for me to decide between stillmatic, IWW, and HHID.

Dude, you literally took the same exact words out of my mouth :confusion:
I agree with every fucking thing you said, & that quote is one of my favorites too. :worship: :worship:

I'd also like to add that Stillmatic is probably my favorite hip-hop album, I find it perfect. :b:

No, like I said, I think his themes/concepts are the best, and lyrically I'd put it above any of his other albums (again, Illmatic is classic, but the content isn't as strong imo)

I tend to agree with you. While It Was Written is my favorite Nas album, and Illmatic is, arguably, his best body of work, God's Son brings something new to the table. A matured Nas, more poetical, more Nas like, in terms of him opening up to the listeners. With songs like Dance, Book Of Rhymes, I Can, Heaven, and Get Down this album proved to be a solid body of work, one of his best. It comes down to preference, but I dare to say it might be better than Stillmatic.

To me, Gods Son is to Stillmatic what It was written was to Illmatic.

4 undeniable classics, and both great followups, they are practically sequels. But the original is always best, so I'll go for Illmatic and Stillmatic.
