I agree to an extent, but I do fuckin love recovery :worship:

But I really really hope whatever his "last" album ends up being, he does a lot of creative concepts that I'll post here, but also that he says prior it will be his last album. And if he doesn't say prior it is his last album before it's released, I hope the album title, as well as the content makes it known, and that it's basically 'known" it's his last due to that. I think he has done too much in his career to just do an album and later say he is done, like if he were say in the near future he is done and recovery was last.

But here are some concepts or issues I'd like him to address on his "last album", and I'm only bringing this up since he is nearing the end for solo albums, and it may very well be his next album that's his last.

1. I'd love to see him redo a song from infinite to some extent as a way to show where and how he started.
2. A d12 song with an unreleased proof verse, or a verse he has done, as a way to go out with a d12 song.
3. A song about hip-hop in general, as he saw it through his years in the game, kind like joe buddens "who" but where he talks about where he was, who was big then, and what went through his mind during those periods.
4. A track about why he is quitting, or something to that affect.
5. A straight lyrical song for the true em fans, with everything in it that made him who he is, similar to almost famous is the best way to describe that.
6. And lastly, a song directly to his fans.

He needs to step Shady Records up, get it to Young Money level. Shortly after the official signing they need to announce a new album, announce a D12 album and even release a track or 2 with the whole gang. I wanna start hearing "SHADYYY" on the intro of tracks again, I miss that :flutter:

Recovery is the shit, but I want storytelling too. That's Em at his very best, that's what he's good at. Not punchlines, even though he is alright at them

While I agree, I'd sday 25 to life, space bound, ltwyl, and going through changes were storytelling for the most part.

and almost famous & talkin 2 myself were sorta storytelling.

but yeah, much different than even relapse, which was a lot of storytelling, even tho about a lotta killing :8)

the punchlines on recovery and despicable were pretty good, after that he seems to have fallen off a bit....the "chip off my shoulder" and 'bipolar" lines from all she wrote are examples of bad punchlines....but something like the 'lied through your teeth' in not afraid has so much going on it makes you wonder how he even thought of that. if he can write like that i don't mind, but i do think that his storytelling and intricate rhyming is his strong point and he should embrace it.

Geno wrote:I think he's focusing too much on making some weird metaphorical punchlines that end up being bad instead of just storytelling.

I was just watching the Voodoo fest video of Superman / Drug Ballad, and all those songs are are good storytelling songs with a simple beat.

We don't need all these different noises / synth sounds in the beats. Take a look at The Real Slim Shady. That beat is VERY simple sounding, and it fits perfectly.

It's almost like the beats drown out Em's voice and that's why he shouts. Won't Back Down? Perfect example.

I wish he'd produce or work with the Bass Bros again.

i agree with everything you said. simple beats where he is able to tell a story and get off this insane metaphorical crap that in all honestly isnt really that amazing.

Great examples by the way with Superman and Drug Ballad. 2 great songs. Drug Ballad being my favorite em song ever
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it
Spend a million a track and went over my budget

I disagree. The way he's writing now with the crazy deep metaphors, breaking words in half to separate multi's, mispronouncing words to add meanings to them, this all shows how far ahead he is as not only a lyricist but a master of the language.

And he's a great producer as well, he knows he has to yell to stay above some of the beats he gets on. That's totally intentional, and I personally love it. It shows intensity, as if everything he's spitting is an adrenaline rush for him.

I hate listening to people like Tupac because they sound the same. Waaaay too layed back. Em is into his music and he lets it show. He has a super powerful voice, and a genius mind. And you're saying he needs to put all of that on the shelf to move forward? That is by very definition regressing.

If that's bad wordplay, I don't know what's good for you. That's easily a Despicable-level line.

I feel like a dick shooting down your ideas haha, but...

3. A song about hip-hop in general, as he saw it through his years in the game, kind like joe buddens "who" but where he talks about where he was, who was big then, and what went through his mind during those periods. :y:
4. A track about why he is quitting, or something to that affect. NO. He should never sever ties with rap and say he's gone, I don't want Em to be the Brett Favre of rap
5. A straight lyrical song for the true em fans, with everything in it that made him who he is, similar to almost famous is the best way to describe that. :y:

I think Em needs to fight the RIGHT balance between the two. Almost Famous is the best example. A lyrical juggernaut of a song that's packed with punchlines and metaphors, but it also does storytelling incredibly well. I want more of that.

I understand the wordplay fully, and I know it's very clever but it's too obviously forced for my liking. But to each his own I suppose. I prefer something like this, from won't back down...

I'm the longest needle around here. Need a fix, ock?
I'm the big shot, get it, dick-snots?
You're just small pokes, little pricks

The content seems much more suited to the song, and he's still managing a triple entendre.
