Question About Master Tapes

Why is it that if an artist (such as chamillionair) leaves a label, why does that lable have ownership of the master tapes?

I mean, those arfe tracks that artist wrote, why should the label get to keep them?

thats part of thge reason i don't really wanna get signed to a label, i want full ownership and control of everything i do

Nobody at the moment, but 2011 is gonna be a big year for me, i got 4 solo mixtapes planned, as well as a group album with my horrorcore rock/rap group "Sickass" were workin on a album called "Torture Chamber" so, by the end of 2011 i'm gonna have 80-90 solo songs/freestyles out, so hopefully a label will pick me up

he wrote the songs, but the record lebel pays for productions and studio sessions,plus he's under contract,anything recorded during the period of the contract is the lebels.

Depending on who you sign with it's usually not that bad. The more independent the more creativity rights you'll have, basically.

eh, my whole goal was to get attention from 3 lables, i would love to get signed by either Strange Music, Redman's Label GH, or maybe get Hopsins attention and get signed to Funk Volume, the 3 people i respect themost, Redman could do alot for me if i was able to get signed with him, he seems to be level headed and seem's like he wants to help up and comers

I am workin on that, my mixtape i'm workin on is called "The Future", The origonal plan was to record my vocals over famous beats such as Jay-Z's Takeover, but now i'm doin somethin different, i'm gonna use my own beats, exept for 1 or 2 tracks, because on this tape i'm doing a 2011 version of Redman's "Blow Ya Mind", and once i get enough material i'm goin to do a weekly drop as well, because i have about 400-500 tracks written. like i said, 2011 is gonna be a big year for me, i'm not saying i'm gonna be the next big thing for hip hop, i don't care what my status in the game becomes, i just wanna make music.
