You sure it isn't "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang that went Gold first? Wikipedia & I've seen it on other sources when I was doing my English paper over hip-hop, that it was the first hip-hop to popularized hip-hop around the world and the first hip-hop song to go Gold. "Rapper's Delight" was released in '79 and "The Breaks" was released in '80.
