I think he honestly does it on purpose. Because he generally sounds the same as he did years ago, you can tell from his interviews. He does it to switch it up, and I don't really blame him for it because it keeps his music interesting

In fact i had the same thought's ,i always thought that since he stopped laying down vocals around 06-07 (except for few songs ), he could not bring the old voice/accent back like in "the way i am" ,and the 04-05 era, if you notice closely his voice shivers(same song and dance) at places in song's where he is not yelling(that's the effect of age), to bring that old vibe back he has to yell.
But technology can be a bitch some time yaw heard.

I think it's because he can change his voice. He admitted the high pitched voice he used to rap with at the beginning of his career wasn't natural.

If he can change the color of his voice like this, I'm sure he has no problem to change the pitch.
