Well, because he has the oppurtunity to build generational wealth. Forget about him and Hailey having money. What about Hailyes children? What about Hailyes grandchildren?

The Black Eyed Peas and Justin Bieber may have some additional superstar company on Sunday. Eminem will make an appearance during the Super Bowl in a commercial for Lipton Brisk Iced Tea, the New York Post reported on Monday (January 31). -MTV

Whats the worst thing that could happen as a result, people who already call him a sellout........ will call him a sellout again??

At 40 years old and having listened to people whine about every move he's made his entire career I'm sure he's over the shit

People called him a sellout when he wrote songs dissing Britney Spears, and they call him a sellout when he sings a love song with Rhianna..........Diffrent Song = Same response

And when his super bowl commercial drops they'll call him a sellout again........... Buisness as Usual

On topic tho, Super bowl commercials are well known for being funny as hell, My moms doesnt even like football and she use to watch for the promos when I was younger.......... Could be funny, I'll be watching the steelers crush the pack anyway so I guess I'll see when it drops

^ Yeah but the difference is, the only people calling him a sell-out up until this point were morons who didn't understand the term.

He'd never actually sold-out, in any aspect.

Dissing pop stars was to separate himself from them, just by association they think mentioning their name is selling-out, ridiculous. And, using Rihanna was to create a paradox like performing with Elton at the Grammys. She was a victim of domestic abuse, it was a great idea.

But this IS actually selling-out. It's a random public endorsement for the sake of money. That's what selling-out is, he loses respect from people who actually know what it means.

And wait until you see the commercial before you get all up in arms about it, might be funny

If we knew ahead of time that Em was gonna be in a Shamwow informercial, you all would've bitched about that too. But it turned out to be funny, and this commercial is supposed to be too. Just watch the damn thing before you complain and call him a sell-out.

He definitely knows the difference man.

I'm pretty sure he even mentions it in The Way I Am, or certainly recently... he said something along the lines of, he couldn't live with himself randomly endorsing things and that's not what he's about etc.

and the fact he's said no to stuff for a decade, shows he knows.

It doesn't matter if it's hilarious or genius, it's selling-out because he's randomly endorsing something for the sake of money, end of.

You don't know that it's for the money. Maybe he agreed to it because it sounded funny. Or maybe he really does like ice tea...

Proves my point

He's said no to stuff like this for a decade, dissed every pop star in sight and did everything in his power to distance himself from the term sell out.......

And a large number of people still call him a sellout anyway

lol, dude is never gonna be able to shut everyone up and he's close to 40, take the check, whats the diffrence, people who already accuse you of shit you havent done, now have a little summin to back it up with??

You already been convicted of the crime, might as well do it...........If I got sent to jail for killing somebody when I didnt, the first thing I'd probably do is kill somebody, gonna get punished for it might as well get the satisfaction of doing it.........

Besides, how do you know he dont drink lipton Iced Tea??.........Maybe he likes the product and wants to endorse it, nobody knows dudes motivation so why speculate...........If the commercial sucks it sucks, if its funny I'll laugh, how does shit like this really effect anything, never got the point

It's for $1 million dollars! lmao. That's proof enough.

I seriously doubt an advert for ice tea was so mind-blowing on an artistic level he simply couldn't resist. Think of all the genuinely interesting stuff, movies and all he's turned down over the years because they weren't good enough, artistically.

This is total BS.

That's a really shitty excuse man. Doesn't justify it at all and I don't think he thinks like that.

You could use that to justify anything, let's say he appeared on Britney Spears' next album, would you say "oh, he's being called a sell-out anyway, so fuck it!".

Point is, he ISN'T a sell-out. And as long as you can justify your moves, it doesn't matter what people say. And dumb people call everybody a sell-out but the people who know what it means, know Eminem isn't one, hence his immense integrity and respect still, after so long.

Nobody who knows what that means seriously thinks he's a sell-out. But doing this IS selling-out, that's what matters. And yeah he may love ice tea, but it's such an arbitrary brand to the outside viewer that it's not good enough, to endorse on that level.

With say, his Nike shoes - it's obvious that he's a huge Nike fan, a huge sneakers collector and even mentions them in his rhymes. And he collaborated with them on his design etc. that's an endorsement involving some artistic involvement, which he can fully justify.

But fucking ice tea, come on man. This is BS.

Justify it however you want to defend him, but this is pure selling-out and you know that.

But I doubt it's true anyway. Since Em could of done so much stuff for money, why would he randomly sell-out at this point, makes no sense. So, probably a lie.

As for how it affects anything though - I'll tell you how it does for me. Eminem is an integral artist, it's his entire MO, it's what his background and music is built on. Integrity over money, integrity and respect over everything...

So, by doing this, how could he ever seriously write a lyric in that vein again?

If he does this - "I'll suffocate for the respect before I breathe to collect the fucking cheque" = fail. It's a very big compromise of all that he's built in terms of his image and mindset, for the sake of a very quick buck which he could easily make doing something involving his art.

It's inexcusable, and makes him a much lesser artist / person, to do it. It makes him 50.

Just like people couldn't take Ice Cube seriously as a gangsta after all those family movies, could you ever take Eminem 'the rebel', the 'outlaw', the defiant badass seriously again as the face of Lipton Brisk ice tea? Okay maybe one advert wouldn't make the world of difference but it's a dent in the armour and a very bad foot down the wrong path.

The complaints your making about compromise and what not, those same things have been brought up on other moves

When he signed 50, people said "How can someone who cares so much about lyrics sign such an average thug rapper??.........He sold out, he's only signing him for the money, I thought he was a hip hop head"

And thats just one example I'm pulling off the top, so maybe to YOU, summin like this is that huge deal thats got you uptight, but people have been making these same arguments for years about everything he does.........

Me personally I dont give a shit..........I always thought 50 was whack, didnt make me lose respect for him

When he turned his TRSS songs into a typical Pop Formula "Everytime I release an album this is what I'll sell it with", it made him as predictable as any other mainstream artist, but I never let it effect my opinion on the rest of the music.........I just dont listen to those songs

And I dont give a shit about this commercial either, do what you want with your life, just make good music and the rest is your buisness

Yes but again, you're missing the point by saying other people have called things he's done sell-out. The point is they WEREN'T. It's not subjective if you can justify it with logic.

Whether or not you think 50 Cent is trash point is, at that time he didn't and he justified it with his passion for 50 Cent, it was obviously about the music and the image. And, it was related to his art, it was hip-hop.

But this, is endorsing something for the sake of money only. Selling-out isn't a subjective term, it's objective in terms of... it's selling out your integrity for the sake of money. Now, what integrity is to one person or the next isn't objective, but we know Eminem's aims and what's integral to him. And ice tea has nothing to do with Eminem as an artist, with his art, nothing. It's fucking ice tea.

It's a totally arbitrary public endorsement for money. THAT is selling-out. Nothing else you mentioned is selling-out because it can all be justified on artistic terms and anybody who understands the fucking term knows that.

Making catchy music has nothing to do with selling-out, all his music is fucking catchy even his songs about raping and eating people. That's just good music, good music is memorable. He's still always said whatever he wants, however he wants = integrity.

And working with people I, you or anybody happens to think is shit but he doesn't and can justify working with isn't selling-out, that's taste.

There's a huge huge difference between everything else you mentioned, and this.

But whatever, it doesn't bother you, great. That just makes us different then. It bothers me though and it's not about being uptight, it just makes me lose a bit of respect for Em as a person and makes him much less integral in my eyes. Agree to disagree, done.
