The official misunderstood Em lyrics thread

Postby RainMan44 » Feb 1st, '11, 03:50

I was thinking we let's use this thread to post lyrics we don't really understand, and other users can explain, and vice versa. Just help each other out, ya' know? :D

"It's sucks but it's exactly what I thought it would be, like trying to start over
I got a hole in my heart, but some kind of emotional rollercoaster"

What do the bold parts mean? Is it just a separate phrase, or it is a part of the whole bar, put together to create one meaning?

Also, in Stay Wide Awake, it sounds like he's saying "Stay wide awake or you might be dead-founded by the lake" instead of saying "found dead'....it's at 3:20ish...any idea wtf he's saying?

"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

For the longest time I didn't know why he, out of nowhere, said "Giant Scrotum" in the middle of the first verse of "Almost Famous". I thought and I thought and looked at the surrounding lines, thinking that it was all part of some kind of elaborate, complex punchline waiting to be uncovered. Eventually I just started thinking he just did it for the rhyme.

About 2 days ago I learned that it meant he had big balls :facepalm

I too, was confused about that at first. This is why "Almost Famous" is not enjoyable to me. The lack of multies and the stupid punchlines (minus the attack/a tack) ruin it for me.

Yep. There is some, like "Roethlisberger" and "office worker", "thumb tack" and "come back", "stepped on, son" and "slept on one"...but I do NOT consider "record 'em" "thwart 'em" "snort 'em" "boredom" and "mortem" multies, because they end with the same word, the word before is the one that rhymes...Looking back now, the 1st verse has tons of multies....there is also "stained drawers", "chainsaws", "Chang's sauce", "crank calls" and "dang skulls"...but the rest of the song, it's minimal, and when he does say it, they're nothing special...like "Mike Meyers" and "Mic Prior"..."Mike" does not rhyme with "Mic", but "priors" rhymes with "meyers"...nothing special...First verse is good, though.

He says "you might end up found dead by the lake"

and "It's sucks, but it's exactly what I thought it would be like trying to start over" is one complete sentence

and I got a hole in my heart, but some kind of emotional rollercoaster" is one complete sentence, but im sure they are related

"Exactly what I thought it would be like trying to start over."

What does "like trying to start over" have to do with "exactly what I thought"? That sounds like an attempt at a punchline/metaphor, and I don't get it :confusion:

EDIT 1: And I think he actually says "You might end up dead, found by the lake"...now that you told me it, it made it clearer, and that's the conclusion I came to :)

I dont think its a metaphor, i think hes describing relationships with women, meaning its exactly what he thought it would be like trying to start over with a woman, or just start over in general because hes back to being single/divorced again. The whole song seems to be about love / women, because just before that he says

what the fuck is up with this?
I've tried in this department, but, I ain't had no luck with this(department meaning the love/relationship department)

and im like 99% certain he says "you might end up found dead by the lake", slow it down and listen again

lol because 'exactly what i thought' and 'like trying to start over" go with each other, Its one sentence. They aren't two separate sentences... He says "its exactly what i thought it would be like trying to start over" read it as one sentence.

I dont think its a metaphor, i think hes describing relationships with women, meaning its exactly what he thought it would be like trying to start over with a woman, or just start over in general because hes back to being single/divorced again. I've tried in this department, but, I ain't had no luck with this(department meaning the love/relationship department)

The whole love / relationship thing could also have a double meaning. Meaning hiphop/rap represents the girl / love. Its exactly what he thought it would be like trying to start over rapping? but i think its about girls

and im like 99% certain he says "you might end up found dead by the lake", slow it down and listen again

*edit* Yeah, he definitely says "you might end up found dead by the lake". 100% sure

This technically isn't an Em lyric, but it's a D12 song (6 in The Morning), but Swifty says "in a house full of dark shit" and it sounds exactly like he says "in a house full of dog shit"  . I always got a kick outta that, idk why.
