My biggest problem with Alex Da Kid...

is that all of his songs, most of which end up to become major hits, always follow the exact same concept and have broadly similar beats too.

Airplanes
Love The Way You Lie
Castle Walls
Coming Home
I Need A Doctor
Words I Never Said

Intro: Female singer doing the hook accompanied by a sonorous piano.
Then the first rap verse kicks off and the beat comes in. Usually loud droums accompanied by spacy sounds.
Then it's usually three verses, finished off once again by the hook.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of his production and most of these songs are or have been on heavy replay on my iPod.
But it's starting to get very repetitive. "Words I Never Said" and "I Need A Doctor" sound much too alike.

I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

its not his decision to put a female on the hook...he may have SG doing hooks but they dont have to have a female on the hook....I think AtK is doing good things for hip hop

I'm not denying that he has produced great tracks, but it's always the same now and there always is that female singing the hook. I know he wants to make a star out of Skylar Grey and I appreciate that because she is very talented and deserves the fame, but he needs to come up with a larger variety of drum patterns and melodies and it would be nice to hear something not so "Love The Way You Lie"-ish from him.

He's okay, but I agree, all his production pretty much sounds the same

I agree, but there is usually not more than one of his beats on people's albums so it doesn't bother me. I like his beats more and more - I need a doctor and Words I never said are great.

And Hiphopdane, I agree with you, it doesn't bother me on the albums neither.
But when you look strictly at the songs that he has produced within the last year, you'll notice most of them pretty much sound the same.

I can't disagree with that but he is still quite young and has already shown great potential. Mr. Porter has gone from being a good producer to being one of the best out there.

Yes, I'm anxious to see what he's gonna be up to in 2011. "Words I Never Said" has to be one of his best beats yet, but he still needs to come up with different concepts in order to stay relevant.
