You have to question his motives for doing this commercial though. I mean, what the fuck has Lipton Iced Tea got to do with his art, or him as a person? NOTHING!!

Money talks.

$1M for them to use your voice I don't think anyone who would turn that down celebrity or not.

Ricky Gervais did.

Gervais got offered £1 Million to be in a beer as, that's more than $1 Mill, it's about 1.8 as much (economically speaking). They then offered him £2 Million and he said no.

Because it wasn't about the money. It was because it had nothing to do with what he did, and he does what he does for the art, for the creativity.

Gervais obviously has more integrity than Em now.

I'll wait and see what this is all about anyway though, I don't trust the papers for anything. It could be a 'spin' or an angle they're putting on a whispers, for something entirely different. We'll see.

I don't understand what makes you think he did it for money just because he was paid $1. He does a commercial so that makes him a sellout seriously he may of had other reasons for doing it.

^ Hence the reason for the rest of what I said in my post.

Did you not read the bit about me saying it could just be a 'spin' aka media emphasis and, it could be something entirely different so, let's wait and see...

If you're going to respond, take my whole post into account don't just take the bit you want to form an argument lmao. I already have said, multiple times before this also, that it could be anything yet, so we'll see.

Just watched. Pretty funny.

I like the way he did it. Still don't like the fact he did it, but that was good.

Eh, I think you guys are looking into a little too far.

Culturally, it has became a competition as to who has the best ad during the superbowl, some people even enjoy watching the ads more than the superbowl. So, Eminem being the comedian he is, wrote a commercial that he thought could compete. I don't think he is doing it for the money at this point, whats a million to the biggest artist in the world? Plus, we don't even know the details on the payment side of things. This stan found a way to believe

edit

To address your point more, maybe the lipton iced tea people were the only ones that gave him artistic freedom to make the commercial how he wanted.

I don't think he did it for the money either, I think he did it for "teh lulz". The money is just a nice bonus, Interscope wouldn't let Em do it for cheap, though

@WilyMo021 - Well why even do it then.

Obviously it's about the money or why would he do it. Do you really think he loves Lipton Brisk THAT much lmao? Or was SO dying to do a 30 second pisstake.

There's so many ways he can exercise that, put out a fucking song, create something.

Look, the commercial was funny. But, taking millions of dollars - and Royce even said $1 million was way off, and if you think that's hard to believe, consider this...

Ricky Gervais got offered £1 million (about $1.8 mill) to do a beer ad, back when he was even less famous. SO if they offer Gervais, a British comedian who, is known in the US now but, come on, this is EMINEM... so if they offer Gervais that much, think how much EMINEM probably got.

So like I say, it was funny - but... taking millions of dollars to randomly endorse ice tea, for a chunk of change... is selling-out. Doesn't mean he's sold-out in his music, but I think less of him as a person now. And selling-out doesn't get much clearer in definition than what he did.

And anyone who can't admit that is in denial, because it's Eminem.

^ Who the fuck said he can't do what he wants.

I'm just responding to Willy. Who gives a fuck at the end of the day, I'm not going to lose sleep over it, it's a 30 second commercial and I'm sure he'll remain integral in his music.

But just don't try and sugarcoat it and frame it as something else. Doing a fucking ice tea ad for a chunk of change, is selling-out. If that's not, selling-out doesn't exist.

I don't really see the problem here, people do commercials all the time. Just because he promotes something doesn't mean he is a sell out. He can promote whatever he wants as long as at the end of the day music is still his number one thing and he continues to put out quality material. And I'm comfortable with the fact that it is and he will.
And everything's spinning

are swimming in pink linen again in the sink
Then in a couple of minutes that bottle of Guinness is finished

^ Yes it does mean he's a sell-out.

Selling out = doing something you wouldn't normally do, if not for the money, or something in which the ultimate aim is the money, no passion, endorsing for cash.

If the money is the main incentive, it's selling-out. As it's a compromise for $$$

You're going to try and frame it and deny it, because it's Em. But as one of the longest, biggest fans of his, I can't deny logic. His music is still integral, but he's not.

Endorsing ice tea for millions, is selling-out. Ice tea has nothing to do with him, it's random, he did it for an easy pay day. Doesn't get much clearer, that is selling-out.

SMH at people being so serious.

Em sold out by writing a funny commercial? Its more of an advert for himself than ice tea anyway.

^ The fact it's funny is irrelevant.

That's a silly argument. I agree the commercial is funny, I like it.

But it's the act of randomly endorsing a product, as an artist - that is the selling-out. Doesn't mean his MUSIC is sell-out, him as a musician and as a public figure are separate entities.

But people are using a double-standard because it's Em, and using that logic you can justify any move he makes. By that logic, if he made a song with... Vanilla Ice, and got paid $1 mill, and say it was actually really good, does that mean he wouldn't selling-out, because the song is good? It's the association, the move itself. Not how tasteful the end result is.
