Jay-Z Should Have Retired After Black Album

Postby ShadyNarkoticz » Feb 8th, '11, 07:10

I'm sitting here, listening to The Black Album. Thinking about how it was the perfect goodbye album and I personally think, a classic. When I think of Jay, I think of the three classics he has: Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, & Black Album. He would have went out as one of the best and would have went out on a classic album. There's really not a bad song on The Black Album and it sums up Jay-Z life as a man, hustler, and rapper beautifully.

Then he came back with Kingdom Come and that was arguably his worst album yet. Then American Gangster was pretty damn good. Then Blueprint III, I like it for what it is but he can do so much better. The Black Album was the PERFECT album to end his career on. He could have just done some collabos every once and a while after retiring to give us the best of what he has (ala Free Mason).

Do you argue/disagree? Do you think The Black Album is as good as I say it is? Discuss, discuss.

i totally agree

i will always believe that Jay-Z's best work came on his debut album Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint is next, and then comes The Black Album in terms of his best albums.

Had he retired after Black Album, his status as a legend in rap would be much more relevant than it is today and now he has a couple more disappointing albums in his catalogue.
ahead of my time, in my prime, one of a kind, out of my mind

I agree to an extent, but more so that Kingdom Come was pretty bad imo. Cause American Gangsta was sick as hell, and B3 was dope but not solid throughout.

So I guess I'd have to say no to that being his last because he had 2 good albums afterwards, but one really bad one. Though I guess since the black album was better than all 3 after it, well that point adds to your argument lol.

Well, its a thought, obviously doesn't matter since he didn't retire afterwards, but it's def an interesting topic :y:

This is pretty much the same as Eminem retiring after TES & 8 Mile, after 3 great albums there was a bad one, a good one and a decent one.

The only difference is Jay-Z was actually supposed to retire. He hyped up Black Album as his last big "Good bye", and it was nearly perfect...

and then he comes back and says he's working on a new album...

and then that new album was a huge disappointment :'(

He likes to rap, so let him :y:
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

/thread there :y:

Umm no. Wayne likes to rap, so let him do it and quit complaining. Eminem likes to rap, hell every single rapper ever likes to rap so that must mean we can't have an opinion on them if they enjoy their vocation.

I agree, Kingdom Come had some decent songs, but was a disappointment, I don't like American Gangster, and The Blueprint 3 was :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

He should have retired until something actually dope hit him. He's been improving greatly since BP3, though (Monster, Free Mason verse, So Appalled, etc.)

Dude, all he cares about is making money, he will never retire if he knows he can earn more.

He's one of the biggest rappers in the world & is married to one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
He has more money than he can spend...

If it was all about the money, songs like "Minority Report" or "D.O.A." would have never been made IMO.

When you have that kind of money, you become a money addict and it's never enough. It depends on the way you view Jay-Z and those songs. See I see Jay-Z as a money hungry beast. He dropped American Gangster when the movie came out, that's not very original, that's a business move. He did 'D.O.A' because he knew he would get a lot of attention for it, and he did, so he pretty much did it for sales. He collabed with Kanye and Wayne when they were both using autotune, his music has been very mainstream lately, well more pop sounding than before, so I don't think he entirely hates on autotune. BP3 sucked major dick.
