I loved Relapse for what it was - same with Recovery.

No hate from me.

It actually DOES sound like Em though

You see, the casual Eminem fan listens to Relapse and says "this is not Eminem". I heard it A LOT, and Relapse Eminem, sadly, isn't what the majority of fans wanna hear. Relapse isn't Eminem, Relapse is Eminem trying to find himself again. Recovery sounds closer to Em, IMO, than Relapse does. Relapse sounds more "Em" because of the beats, that's the only thing I'll ever agree on, as far as "this is/isn't Eminem" goes. Recovery is very "Eminem", you might not like his delivery on a few songs, but Recovery IS Eminem. Listen to Cold Wind Blows, Almost Famous, So Bad...a good number of Rec. songs, actually, if you don't believe that Recovery is "Eminem"

It's just, when people say "oh, he collaborated with so-and-so because he wanted to sell more records. Not because he likes them as an artist and thinks they're dope". I just always say that, that I think Em really wanted to work with these people and that some people act like they "know" Eminem by saying he didn't make Recovery by choice

When people argue whether Em sold out or not, he says what you just said.

I remember a lot of hate on Relapse when it came out and I see a lot of Recovery hate now that wasn't present when it came out.

Its fashionable to prefer Relapse now because Recovery was 'mainstream' and it makes you more of a 'hip hop head' to prefer Relapse.

My opinion? I like and have listened to both a lot but Recovery is a far more powerful and honest CD. If I could pick one album from Em's catalogue to delete forever it would be Relapse because I think Encore has its place as part of Em's history. I find it poignant to listen to a guy so clearly fucked up and lost on one album and then seeing him sober, focussed and sharp on Recovery. What a comeback.

As for it being mainstream, Em's always been mainstream because he is really good and lots of people appreciate that.

I was thinking the same thing. Relapse got criticised alot when it was released now people are loving it and saying its old eminem. Recovery will be appreciated more in a few years or likely once eminem puts out a new album. Where did all the love for the accents come from? Everyones know saying they miss it. I bet these relapse lovers were relapse haters before recovery came out.
