he mentions eminem, but i can't tell if it's a diss or not, it sounds like it's a diss towards him and 50 cent to me.

I think maybe he's... referring to Royce?

He's flipping it though isn't he. So I think he's saying he inspired Royce who was tryna mimick Em and Royce rose up (instead of Em) and signed a white rapper - 50 Cent.

Pretty much a babble song. I admire his attempt to be different and daring but I'm sick of all black men alive thinking they even have the right to fucking 'claim' slavery lmfao, like it happened to them. Hey, I'm white, Jews are white... Guess the Holocaust happened to my people?

Lupe Fiasco was born in America. He's not an African, so he's going by the fact he has African decent and brown skin. Well, by that logic - ALL humans are related, so we're all distant relatives of slaves. It's a total failure on his and black men's part who think like him, to think of 'the white man' as doing X to 'the black man'. It was a position of power, and racism is irrational.

So a more proper way to look at it is some 'ignorant men' (by focusing on colour, that's still a fail, as it implies it was the fact these men had white skin that made them evil) who did terrible thing to some innocent men. Simple as that. And how many times in history as that happened? The fact we keep giving slavery a notion over all else BECAUSE it was racially-charged, at the time - is a failure to evolve our thinking,

White men of today had ZERO to do with that and as little to do with it as 50 Cent or Lupe Fiasco went through it. So he and all other black rappers can stop acting like they've been through a hardship because they're closer relatives to a generation of people who went through something hundreds of years ago lmfao. It's absurd. I like Lupe but in this instance, stfu man.

I'm liking it, but I really need to have a look at the lyrics to see how much I'm liking it. And I rarely ever do it, but this is a bit mysterious.

I know Lupe has been against any talk of reparations and things like that (I have been too), that's why this is mysterious because it's a bit difficult to understand what's he referring to in many aspects.

It's almost certainly not a diss at Em or 50 though. He's spoken with so much praise of Em in the past, and only two or three weeks a go was with 50 at the G-Unit offices and he said that 50 was the most deep person he'd spoken to.

Pretty good concept song were he flips everything around. Not a diss to Eminem just saying what if he fit in at school and didn't start rapping I guess.

Oh okaaaaaaay. Had a look at the lyrics whilst listening to it, and it's an early runner for one of the best tracks of the year.

He's just almost referring to it as 'Lupe's dream', that is talking about things that didn't happen in the world, and he dreamed that they did.

He's praising Eminem again here btw. The song is him talking about things that don't happen/haven't happened/didn't happen. There's a been a million of these "what if" type tracks in hip hop, but Lupe is close to perfecting it here, because he's added a different spin to it. Brilliant.

He says.

Eminem fitted in but then again he inspired a black rapper tryin to mimic him
And thats a really rose up out of michigan, the sign of white rapper by the name of 50 cent

So what he means is that he dreams/wished that Eminem did fit in (because he didn't when he started, because of his color). He's practically saying that he wished that it didn't matter what color Eminem was and that he just fitted in, and that he then signed a white rapper named 50 Cent (talking opposites) and that it would be perfect that way.

Great song. I think a lot of us would have missed a lot on first few plays.

Another brilliant track from him! Just pre-ordered the album :)

Honestly, if he stays the same he is going down in history as one of the illest to ever do it.
