Lupe Fiasco name dropping Eminem in new song

Postby 13245768690 » Feb 22nd, '11, 13:14

In Lupe's new song called "All Black Everything", 2nd verse goes like:

"Uh, and it ain't no projects
Keepin it real is not an understood concept
Yea, complexion's not a contest
Cuz racism has no context
Hip hop ain't got a section called conscious
Everybody rappin' like crack never happened
Crips never occurred nor Bloods to attack them
Matter a fact no hood to attack in
Somalia is a great place to relax in
Fred Astaire was the first to do a backspin
The Rat Pack was cool group of black men
That inspired five white guys called The Jacksons
Eminem fitted in but then again he inspired a black rapper tryin to mimic him
And that's what really rose up out of Michigan, the sign of white rapper by the name of 50 Cent, ha!"

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

stillmatic wrote:Oh okaaaaaaay. Had a look at the lyrics whilst listening to it, and it's an early runner for one of the best tracks of the year.

He's just almost referring to it as 'Lupe's dream', that is talking about things that didn't happen in the world, and he dreamed that they did.

He's praising Eminem again here btw. The song is him talking about things that don't happen/haven't happened/didn't happen. There's a been a million of these "what if" type tracks in hip hop, but Lupe is close to perfecting it here, because he's added a different spin to it. Brilliant.

He says.

Eminem fitted in but then again he inspired a black rapper tryin to mimic him
And thats a really rose up out of michigan, the sign of white rapper by the name of 50 cent

So what he means is that he dreams/wished that Eminem did fit in (because he didn't when he started, because of his color). He's practically saying that he wished that it didn't matter what color Eminem was and that he just fitted in, and that he then signed a white rapper named 50 Cent (talking opposites) and that it would be perfect that way.

Great song. I think a lot of us would have missed a lot on first few plays.

Look at you, you're gettin blood all over my rug!" (Sorry!)
She beat me over the head with the remote control
opened a hole, and my whole brain fell out of my skull
I picked it up and screamed, "Look bitch, what have you done?!?"
"Oh my God, I'm sorry son"
"Shut up you cunt!" I said, "Fuck it!"

Lupe seems to be trying too hard to be political and deep. He used to do it naturally, now it seems forced. The topic of race in hip hop has been beaten into the ground. "Glenn Beck is a racist" STFU Lupe, get back to meaningful topics. Any 15 year old rapper who thinks he's "deep" could write these lines...

It ain't diss at all, just because he used Em's name doesn't mean hes dissing, he was using it to set an example of the history of rap. That Em was white and he got one good as black rapper "50 cent."
