Your Lists of "Classic" Albums From the Past 7 Years

Postby Satire » Feb 26th, '11, 05:55

Yes, since 2004. I hate to start 2 topics in the Hip Hop Domain in one day, and I especially hate bringing up the word "classic" here, but this just felt necessary to me because of the amount of new music I'm only recently hearing.

Anyways,
Albums I think will be considered Classic Classics eventually:
Madvillainy: Great lyricism, great production, critical success. Alot of people are already holding this as a classic album.
Kanye's albums: Like it or not, they all hold huge significance in this decade of hip-hop. Kanye's status has pretty much been cemented in the genre.
Food & Liquor
Everready: Tech N9ne is becoming a pretty big name in the industry, with this being his most popular album in the eyes of the public.

Albums that will be cited as general classics by underground fans:
Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell
R.A.W.: Gazing at the Moonlight is great, but this album is just hyped out the ass.
Diabolic's Liar & A Thief
When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

Personal Classics (Or "Would-be-considered-classics-if-these-artists-weren't-criminally-underrated-right-now"):
S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. - One Be Lo: I just took a full listen to this album. All I can say is Wow.
Life & Times of Peter Nelson - Copywrite
The Balancing Act - Sadistik
Drawn With An Eraser - Spoonfull
Below The Heavens - Blu

This might be it for me but I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting a few.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Man on the Moon
RAW
Recovery (in time)

Life & Times would be a classic but some tracks I still can't get into.

A badly broken Code-Dessa
K.R.I.T. Wuz Here- Big Krit
True and Livin- Zion I
A Long Hot Summer- Masta Ace

I'm gonna do the same breakdown you did.

Albums I think will be considered Classic Classics eventually:
Recovery (that's right bitch)
K.O.D & Everready
The Hunger For More 1 & 2
Graduation (if it already isn't considered one)
Street Hop (Royce is understream)
Untitled (Nas)
Raw Footage
Tha Blue Carpet Treatment

Albums that will be cited as general classics by underground fans:
RAW
Life & Times Of Peter Nelson
The Greatest Story Never Told
Searching For Jerry Garcia
Desire (Pharoahe Monch)

Personal Classics:
Death Is Certain (it's considered a classic but )
Slaughterhouse
Doctor's Advocate
The Sound Of Revenge
Release Therapy
The Cool
God's Son (2 years off but whatev.)
Cheers

Those that I listed in the "will eventually be considered classics" list are also personal classics of mine. Also, those listed in Personal Classics are albums that are generally NOT considered classics with the kind of exception of DIC.

Hmmm...

Canibus - Melatonin Magik (2010)

Kanye West - Late Registration (2005)
Kanye West - Graduation (2007)

Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon: The End of Day (2009)

And, I think B.o.B's debut is up there, Big Boi's debut maybe, Street Hop was / is great... and... Charles Hamilton's The Pink Lavalamp is pretty great too.

2004
Ill Bill - What's Wrong With Bill?
Kanye West - College Dropout
Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Royce Da 5'9 - Death Is Certain
Jedi Mind Tricks - Legacy Of Blood

2005
The Game - The Documentary
Common - Be
50 Cent - The Massacre

2006
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor
Tech N9ne - Everready
Jedi Mind Tricks - Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell

2007
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens
AOTP - Ritual Of Battle

2008
Ill Bill - The Hour Of Reprisal
T.I - Paper Trail
Q-Tip - The Renaissance
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

2009
Raekwon - OB4CLII
Tech N9ne - Sickology 101
Slaughterhouse - Slaughterhouse
Eminem - Relapse
Hopsin - Gazing At The Moonlight

2010
Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives
Diabolic - Liar & A Thief
Vinnie Paz - Season Of The Assasin
Eminem - Recovery
Hopsin - R.A.W

I don't see them all as classics obviously, but i think they all deserve a mention in each year, whether it be for brilliant lyrics or cultural impact :y:
And this:
It bugs me that people are either reluctant to say Eminem or have to justify it or say stuff like "that's right bitch" on an Eminem forum. Sales alone make Recovery a mainstream classic let alone how amazing the album is.
So if I should ever fall and get caught in a hustle
Let them know that I died while I fought in a struggle
From the hoodrats to rich kids lost in a bubble
Spray paint it on the streets and in the subway tunnels
Write it down and remember, that we never gave in
The mind of a child is where the revolution begins
So if the solution has never been to look in yourself,
How is it that you expect to find it anywhere else?

Some of the albums you guys lists as classics make me lol. You can't just throw around the word classic to every album that you like.
