Official Lupe Fiasco "Lasers" Thread - *Album Leaked*

I feel like I shitted on this album too much on first listen
that was mainly because it didn't have the typical Lupe sound that I've grown to like
it's a much different sound and def more commercial...but at the same time, this album is actually good at what it is if that makes any sense

Out of the 12 tracks, I actually really like about 7 now
4,5 are the worst tracks Lupe has put out
last 3 tracks are also really really good
everything in between is mostly decent

7/10 album rating for me

In some contracts you HAVE to fullfill the agreements, he obviously has a couple of albums left, and they werent going to release it unless he does the songs they tell him to. Some labels are really fucked up like that

The pity party continues for Lupe Fiasco. The Chicago rapper recently discussed the fight with Atlantic to release his shelved LP Lasers, despite the fact the album was mostly filled with tracks he didn’t much care for. Now we learn that Lupe was nearly suicidal when his label chose B.o.B’s version of “Nothin’ On You” over the cut he had recorded.

“That was the tipping point,” say the emcee in an interview to The Guardian. “It was less about the bruised ego but more the audacity of it. It was mentally destructive. I say it with a certain laissez-faire now because I’m past it, but back then, hearin’ that shit, it fucked me up.”

“I was super-depressed, lightly suicidal, at moments medium suicidal — and if not suicidal, willing to just walk away from it all completely.”

We can’t blame him for being upset – B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You” was not only a #1 hit, but garnered both he and Bruno Mars three Grammy nominations, including one for Record Of The Year.

We heard Lupe’s unearthed demo of “Nothin’ On You” last June, and we have to agree that we much prefer Bobby Ray’s cut (though many of our readers thought Lupe’s lyrics triumphed over B.o.B’s raps).

He’s more than likely feeling even worse nowadays with the stream of not-so-positive album reviews trickling out… that is, he’d probably feel worse if he actually was able to produce the album he actually wanted.

I'll probably never listen to I Dont Wanna Care Right Now or the Trey Songz song ever again. Terrible songs.

Break The Chain isn't that good.

The rest are damn good.

I dunno if I'm alone in this but IDWCRN & Out of My Head are just terrible songs tbh. I didn't want to listen to them everytime I listened to LASERS so I took the bonus tracks, which are awesome and added them to tracklist and took out those tracks.

Not bad....I expected under 100k
