Yeah, I shouldn't have mentioned YouTube.

The thing is Canibus is awful 99% of the time. Yet I always see him being in top 10 lists, best lyricist lists etc. Just odd to me. It's almost like, if you have 'x' amount of multies, you're a good rhymer/lyricist. (especially when he's not even that good at them).

How dare you Canibus is sick.

No but really I used to be a huge fan, I liked his pre army shit, when his voice was still bareable. Not to mention he's one of the sickest collaborators when he's serious.

Hopsin overrated? How? Maybe just on this forum very slightly by a couple. But otherwise I'm confused how you could say this generally when hardly no one knows him much outside of Hip Hop forums.

My biggest thing with Hopsin though is he isn't just a rapper like most. Hopsin produces all his own shit too as well as directs his own videos and everything. No one can deny the guy has talent overall and is a decent artist. Just not a typical rapper and is definitely above your average rapper.

I'd say honestly, let him get more well known first and see if he is overrated. Right now, I don't think he has enough recognition to actually say he is overrated.

With that said.. The name that comes up when I think of the subject right away is pretty much Immortal Technique.

^ File under overhyped than, and tons of artists self produce (K-os, Big Krit), though I don't know about direct their own shit, but I don't think I should really give Hopsin props for that.

I've already said I feel he might get overhyped in this forum in particular because of his similarities to Eminem, without even taking skills into account.

Hopsin easily. I'm a fan of him but people here treat him like god and like he's the GOAT.

MF DOOM. I don't get what all the fuss is about.

Mac Miller/Asher Roth/any other white suburban rich rappers.

Are you for fucking real?!

First of all, barely anyone even knows about Rhyme Asylum! When they do shows, so little people know them that you don't even have to buy tickets until the night before and you will still get in! You consider that popular? Rhyme Asylum are so underground that the only people who know about them are real hip hop heads, a fact confirmed by the fact that in my life i have only ever met one guy who knows who they are in real life, and he was a real hip hop fan.

Secondly, i'm sorry, but Rhyme Asylum being overrated is impossible. Lyrically they are fucking amazing, and if you try and suggest anything else you are just WRONG! You may not like their style but their way with words is just majestic. I can't even describe this shit, i shouldn't have to, that's absolutely ridiculous. That's so wrong that not even a pony picture does it justice.

Also, i say Vinnie Paz. When i discovered Jedi Mind Tricks i liked him, but i've quickly noticed he always raps about the same shit. He's good but he bores me a bit, especially with his whole illuminati conspiracy theory bullshit. End of Days is hilarious when he talks about cloning Obama n shit. I still think he's decent, just that out of all the hip hop people find that is considered "underground", Jedi Mind Tricks is normally first stop (even though the very fact that they are so popular kinda trumps that idea) so everyone goes nuts over him. I agree with the guy who said any rapper would probably sound amazing over Stoupe's beats though, imo Stoupe was definately the backbone of JMT.

On topic, Mac Miller, Chris Webby & pretty much any of the college-suburban theme rappers who've been popping up alot lately. They all make the same type of music, are extremely average lyrically, and say the same shit on every one of their songs. If any of them make it (The first one will most likely be Miller), they're going to have alot of hype, make a radio hit, but then drop a sub-par debut and die off in hip-hop instantly.

Edit: I just realized I described Asher Roth without trying.

Wow someone actually put Rhyme Asylum of all fucking groups on here? They're as underrated as underrated gets, even on this forum they only have like 10-20 fans that I know of. Dudes at the very least deserve the underground exposure that Immortal Technique & Tech N9ne have.

Almost all of the music that comes out of that camp is lyrical eargasm.
