Eminem's Homages/Tributes To Rappers (VIDEO - FINAL VERSION)

Postby MikeNUFC » Mar 16th, '11, 16:15

Yeah, I've know I've posted this once or twice already but hear me out...

I added about 4 new homages that I found onto the end of the video and because YouTube deleted the audio of the other one everytime I put it on, I uploaded it to Metacafe, rather than YT.

To the people who've seen it, there's a few new ones, to the people who haven't enjoy it!

If you know anymore that I haven't got post them. I'd be interested to see if there's any I haven't picked up (not including the 2Pac Hit Em Up & Hail Mary ones, I know those, they're just too obvious for me to bother putting into the video),

You're welcome, Mike.

Seen it before but still nice to re-watch.

What's so apparent in all of his homages though is... how much he improved the line / lines / phrase with his flow. I know that most of the stuff he homaged / homages is from a school of less advanced flows but... Em is miles ahead regardless.

I mean, if you listen to The Slim Shady LP now for example, it's 11 years old and yet still sounds fresh and original and his flows are still tighter and more crafted than flows NOW. He material just improves with age like fine wine.

But, he's just so much more natural than almost anybody that's ever touched a mic besides him. Such a natural grasp of rhythm, timing and... it's always so smooth and tight and like that guy said uh... The DOC? he said like Em doesn't miss a fucking hi-hat in the beat or whatever. Which is true. Which is why other rappers eventually sound dated and why older rappers sound bad now.

Because almost everybody else misses crucial rhythmic points in the beat so their flows sound pedestrian. They often leave huge gaps, sometimes intentional but often not, they just haven't practiced to the same degree or honed flow like him.

Props for making this, a lot of the shit he's saying to pay homage sounds better than the original.

Props man, good work, this was neat. You had a couple I didn't know about.

Only thing was, a couple of these were dangerously close to biting. He uses some pretty unknown/non famous lines. There's a video like this where Lil Wayne does the same thing and everyone rags on him for biting.

Why did you add 30 seconds of absolutely nothing before the actual video?
And everything's spinning
You're beginin' to think women
are swimming in pink linen again in the sink
Then in a couple of minutes that bottle of Guinness is finished

Can't really say it's close to biting at all to be honest. He edits them in a way to suit his own context and they're all artists that he listened to as he grew up or has respect for. Most of the lines are relatively well known as well, I thought.

If Lil Wayne made an album as good as Illmatic, bandwagon rap fans would still say it's terrible. I don't like Lil Wayne at all but a lot of rap fans love to regurgitate other's opinions.

Added that in to get past YouTube copyright when I first made the video. Didn't work when I added more homages and forget to take it out when I uploaded it to Metacafe.

The difference is Em actually changes the lines around to fit the song, he just uses the structure of the original verse. Lil Wayne on the other hand doesn't change anything he just straight takes & uses it as his, he bit a entire verse from some old R&B song.

Yeah exactly, Em will either use the line in a context where it's obvious / emphasized such as "YOU NEED BULLETS, HURRY UP RUN!" or he'll re-write it and any rap fan is SUPPOSED to know what he's doing, such as the "The Way I Am" chorus. Like, it would be hilarious to suggest biting when he's making it the chorus of his song. Never have I heard him try and sneak one in or say something casually as if he wrote it.
