Nas is not the one to go to to ask, "Is Hip Hop Alive".....his last album was mediocre....and he is basically non-existent in the hip hop community

What? Mediocre? Non-existent in the Hip Hop community?

How could you call Distant Relatives mediocre...

Seriously how could you call him 'nonexistant in the Hip Hop community", he's one of the most known figureheads in rap, and is rivaled by Em in terms of making people's top five lists. Now if you mean relevant in the mainstream lately, that's a different story.

He couldn't have been talking about the same album lol...or even the same rapper, considering Nas is considered one of the GOATs and DR was considered one of the best albums out last year.

Who gives a shit about sales? The fans definitely don't. So who the hell cares about what's mainstream and what's underground? Past the rappers themselves. Cause way I see it, hip hop is EVERYWHERE. Nas is trying way too hard to hold on his "hip hop is dead" bullshit, let go already son! I respect him as a rapper and all, but god damn does he say some dumb shit to stir up shit sometimes.

While I do agree with you about him being a Grade A influential mc, he isn't a pioneer in any aspect. Neither is Eminem, Big, Pac and Pun.

Pioneers would be DJ Shadow, Kool Keith, Rakim, G Rap

I was talking about Distant Relatives, and it was too poetic and political for my taste, and I was saying that Nas is not the only voice in Hip Hop. As if Hip Hop is just waiting around trying to get Nas' opinion on if Hip Hop is revived or not. He is non-existent, in my opinion, and DR was mediocre in my opinion as well.

Eminem is not a pioneer, he is a legend. A pioneer is like Martin Luther King as opposed to Barack Obama. MLK jr. fought for Black rights, Obama is just the first black president. See the difference.

It's not a matter of opinion if Nas is non existant or not, he's one of the most well respected figureheads in rap and people who have the slightest clue about Hip Hop would recognize who he is. If you're only into mainstream and don't follow the genre than you're opinion on what is and isn't relevant in Hip Hop doesn't matter. (Not referring to you, but teeny boppers who think Hip Hop is only what's on tv)

Sorry but being the first in something does indeed make you a pioneer by definition, obviously Eminem isn't the first white rapper. Perhaps the first white rapper to get worldwide critical acclaim, yes but other than that, you're right he's not a pioneer. But Obama being the "first black U.S. President" does indeed make him the first in that aspect.

Scratch what I said about Obama being a pioneer, being the first in something makes him innovative by defintion, but being elected into office isn't a conscious stylistic choice, just like making sales is.

For example The Low End Theory and Da Endtroducing are far more innovative than R2D/Illmatic/SSLP, despite the latter three being buttloads more popular.
