For People Who Browse Hip Hop Domain More Than Shady Areas

Postby _Steven_ » Mar 18th, '11, 03:15

After reading K Block's thread I figure I could finally make this thread.

I know several other members/former members regarded as knowledgeable of hip-hop agree with me that The Eminem Show is Eminem's best album. I just wanted to see if this was false consensus or what.

Reasons
-Most emotional
-Best use of multies
By this I mean he told coherent stories with them, where as when doing his "slim shady" stuff he could talk about anything that fit the rhyme scheme
Am I coming or going? I can barely decide
I just drank a fifth of vodka -- dare me to drive? (Go ahead)
All my life I was very deprived
I ain't had a woman in years, and my palms are too hairy to hide

-Most consistent

I prefer SSLP & MMLP to TES, there are those days when I throw on a couple emotional songs and vibe but usually I prefer the twisted murder shit to that, but hey that's just me I already know everyone else is gonna come in here and bombard the yes option.

I definitely say yes.

@venom ther majority of people prefer sslp, from what I've seen. I prefer emotion and stories over just rhyming, though. Don't get me wrong, sslp and mmlp are amazing examples of his rhyming capabilities, but I prefer stories as I said above.

I think with tes, eminem came into his own and found who he was as an artist.

I used to like TES more. But I've slowly come to like MMLP more. More passion and more genuine. I think that's the deciding factor. You can't go wrong with either one though.

SSLP for me.

Okay, you have the incredible rhyming (literally flawless) and the perfect flows.

But behind the hilarous humour there is much more; whether it be social commentary, self deprecation or just pure anger and frustration. Just Dont Give A Fuck is my favourite example of this - yeah, it's funny but you could hear how frustrated he's feeling aoout being unsigned. That chorus is actaully pretty chilling.

You could apply this to My Fault (drug abuse), Brain Damage (bullying/school system), Role Model (people taking his music seriously), Guitly Conscience (right and wrong), Still Dont Give A Fuck (a post-signed version of JDGAF).

And then of course you have If I Had, Rock Bottom and 97 B & C.

I can see why people prefer TES- it has some of his most complex rhyme schemes and some of Em's best songs. I just think SSLP is far more clever and less "obvious".

No.
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

It's not THE best album ever, but it just feels right to me, I can't explain it...

But you can't say SSLP > Hip-hop, because without hip-hop, there would be no SSLP.

o lol!! thanks for clearing that out :sweating:

I don't mean it's better than hip hop lol :P I mean it's the best hip hop album

lol you and your crazy comparisons :p

But yeah, I think TES is his best. It just feels the best as a complete album, not to mention the content, emotion and has some of my all time favorite songs, period.
