Wiz Khalifa = Improved Soulja Boy

Postby Satire » Mar 21st, '11, 22:41

A friend of mine said this to me this a while back and I disagreed, but now...ehhhhhhh...

His album leaked today. I listened to his first album and a couple freestyles, thinking he was decent. A couple songs into Rolling Papers now, and it's good for what it is, I guess, but his attitude, his delivery, his chorus voice...It all reminds me of:

Image

..But better, obviously. They're definitely in the same category though. The "I get High, I wanna have fun, fuck bitches, lets go party, lets get drunk" young superstarz. My jury's been out on this guy for a long ass time, but I've come to the realization that he's just not that good. His lyrics are Lil' Wayne when he's high, his flow is lazy and repetitive as fuck, the delivery is Soulja Boy. The only thing I can imagine replaying this music for is the beat.

All of his choruses follow the same formula: He sings a melody that goes with the beat in the first half of them, and the 2nd part is all repetition to make the hook "catchy".

I love when people use this guy as a sign that "Hip Hop is improving" when he's the same cookie cutter radio star that everyone has pretended to hate on for the last couple of years.

Despite all of this, I'm kinda mad how good the production is tbh.

He's one of those rappers that everyone says is good to the point where you genuinely believe that they must be good, I can't help it!

I've only heard the Kush & Orange Juice Mixtape, thought it was cool for chilling and shit but too laid back for my taste. Maybe I'd enjoy him if I smoked weed...

Tell your asian friends to back off, before I personally pay them a visit with a couple of samurai swords. I hate school kids, they listen to the gayest shit.

What he is: he's a carbon copy of another rappers style (which he does poorly), with terrible music that relies SOLELY on the instrumental. Why is he famous? Because people say shit like "enjoy him for what he is" and such. No offense man, but why would we give an untalented piece of shit money when there are so many talented people struggling?

Why is that supposedly smart people don't realize that TALENT is not what it takes to be successful. Yes, it should not be this way, but IT IS. WHY? There is plenty of reasons why and you should know them. Now give these talented rapper credit where it is due, but you got also give credit to the guy who has made it happen with much less talent. I would never in my life say Wiz Khalifa is the great rapper, however, he makes really enjoyable music when you are trying to relax and not do so much thinking. Rap takes a ton of attention, you need to hear most of the words in a verse or you lose context. But when you do pay attention, the song is phenomenal. But when I'm here flirting with this girl, you expect me to listen to the verse? No, I'll probably be rocking to the beat, maybe repeating a word or two in the song as I have a good time. You act like we play Wiz's songs with the lyrics sheet in our face trying to over analyze the shit of it. Naw son, I do not think that was his purpose in the first place.

oh n btw who's he a carbon copy of again?

I'm going to have to ignore everything you just wrote because not once in my comment did I mentioned anything about only listening to "smart" music. I listen to Daniel Bedingfield, and he doesn't make "smart" music with enthralling lyrics. But, he HAS talent, unlike this moron. Also, I said he's a carbon copy of someones STYLE, not their person or personality. Who? That's easy, Soulja fag.

Don't talk to me about party songs and how you don't want to analyze a verse while flirting. Is it really hard to make a song that doesn't sound like you're a mentally incompotent drug addict? Is it really hard to actually have rhythm in your voice? Or not sound like you're high, and destroy an entire amazing beat?

Talent comes in many ways buddy.
