Most interesting upcoming/young rappers?

Postby Hiphopdane » Mar 24th, '11, 21:58

Just made a little list of rappers that I think are the most interesting. Your list?

Lowkey
I love how he is bringing real controversial rap back without talking about how he hates bitches and such played out stuff. His style reminds me of what Chuck D did in the 80's although Lowkey seems a little more knowledgeable and passionate about politics.

J. Cole
What I like most about this guy is that he is writing some really good emotional songs without being corny. He is very articulate and crystal clear in his lyrics plus he isn't the worst rhymer either. Made me a happy little boy when I heard he was rocking with Dr. Dre!

Jon Connor
Not always the most deep but god damn this bloke knows how to rhyme, flow and express himself. I love how he flips words and makes his lines extra deep. Just saw on his Facebook that he has hung out with Game, 50 Cent and Nas so it is only a matter of time before he blows up. Check out his Season One mixtape.

Yelawolf
I can see why a lot of people don't like him but he has written a fair amount of brilliant songs so far that make me hopeful of a good album. His delivery, flows and accent make him something else. A song like Pop The Trunk proves he is capable of writing some real cinematic stuff too.

Prince EA
Only recently got into his stuff but damn this dude doesn't sound like many other rappers. He has some of the most interesting deliveries I've heard in years. Just thought he was worthy of a mention.

Good topic :y:

Tyler, The Creator
I think OFWGKTA are very overhyped as a group, most are just mediocre and Earl Sweatshirt is crazy overrated. However, Tyler is sick. Great voiice, great flow, very original. Bastard is a great album. He is also a sick beat maker. I look forward o seeing what he can do. OFWGKTA, not so much.

Yelawolf
I love some of the songs off 0-60 like Daddy's Lambo and Get the Fuck Up. I'm interested on whether or not he can continue making bangers, or if he'll just become a forgoten oddity.

J Cole
I wanna see if he can be the next Jay-Z or Tupac (obviously in his own right, he'll never be what they were exactly). He has so much potential, but i'm scared a flop could derail his career.

Drake
I'm a Wayne fan (I hate his recent songs though), but I fear he is a bad influence on Drake, musically. Drake has tons of potential, but he is underutilizing it. I feel like if he had signed with Roc or GOOD, he'd be in a much better position to go down as a great, which I believe he has the talent to do. Nicki is in a similar boat, lots of potential that may never be used.

Listen to his early mixtapes. Fear is an incredible, deep song. It's on youtube, but all the versions have the pitched altered. Listen on Datpiff. I'm not gonna turn this into a Drake debate, but I'm confident he has the potential to be a great.

OFWGKTA, Big K.R.I.T and Freddie Gibbs are the only ones I'm keeping a close eye on

Actually, add Chip Tha Ripper to that list - Gift Raps is a nice free album
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Sad to open a thread like this and try to think of some great upcoming MC's from New York and can't think of any.

The new generation is so spread from areas where rappers were almost extinct previously, from Mississippi with Krit towards Alabama with Yela. Yet there's no big buzz for any artist coming out of New York. SMH.

It's almost embarrassing for us to put our hopes on someone like Vado (average), Fred da godson (meh) or Diggy (too young) as the representers for our coast.

So for me personally, everyone knows I check everything out, but street music is still my forte, so for that reason, Kendrick Lamar is the most interesting upcoming rapper for me. I gotta a feeling the CPT got another with him, and I mean real one.

J. Cole is a honorary New Yorker though.

If you're lookin for a sick new emcee from New York, look toward either Yonas (from the Bronx) or The Illz. I prefer Yonas. You could listen to almost any song of his and it'd be enjoyable (almost like any J. Cole song)

Yonas:

Mindless

J Cole isn't young, if you're including him then I'll say B.O.B, Asher and Wiz..

The newest rappers featured in that XXL cover are a joke lol, the only ones that look like they'll have a good future are Yela, Lil Twist, Diggy Simmons and probably Lil B since he looks and raps like Gucci mane lol
^These dudes will have a future because of their hookups

Cause the shit I hear is crazy
But your either getting lazy or you don't believe in you no more
Seems like your own opinions, not one you can form
Cant make a decision you keep questioning yourself
Second guessing and its almost like your begging for my help

J Cole is young, career wise. No albums. Plus he's only 26, a year younger than Em when he dropped SSLP I think.
