Rappers with the most wasted potential?

Postby dead prez » Mar 26th, '11, 00:22

Inspectah deck never had that "classic" Wu solo, even MK had a pretty decent Wu album.

Canibus, if he didn't have shit in his ears and was able to differentiate what type of beats suited him, than his debut may have been a lot better. Really the mic performance was great, even the beats weren't bad, he just has a TERRIBLE ear for beats.

Percee P his album didn't drop until he was 30 years in the game, yeah that's right 30 years.

Del, when the fuck's Deltron 3030 (2) dropping?

DZK- Hasn't done jack careerwise. His upcoming album is like Detox without 2 previous great albums to somewhat validate its delay.

Lil Wayne - Great flow and voice (to me), but for every great song he has he has a ton of trash. He could be so so so much better. Same with Drake, but not as much.

Charles Hamilton - I was never a fan, but he could probably be up there with B.o.B. right now if he wasn't a pink-hedgehog-loving douchebag pussy who constantly has nervous breakdowns and does just straight up gay stuff.

Sort of.. I won't lie, I'm disappointed with almost everything he'd released lately.. But I wouldn't call that "wasted potential". He had his moment that lasted for a long time, he released tons of classics, he created so much controversy and on top of that, he recorded "Lose Yourself" which is just great. And like it or not, he'll always be the guy who changed the history of hip hop and made it spread all over the world. The truth is that if he rapped about the same things as he'd done on SSLP, everyone would bitch about how repetitve, boring and predictable he is. He just grew up and matured, TES was a fucking masterpiece, every single minute of it.

At least he's real. I mean how would it look like if he rapped about taking X's while actually babysitting his kids? Come on people.

I really hate the fact that he did a song with Rihanna, I fucking hate him for that. I'd rather see him finishing his career than doing that, but holy shit, it'll never be a "wasted potential".

/end of rant.

As for really wasted potential.. I feel like it's eLZhi. I don't know, but.. there's just something his missing. I don't know, but I think that he might do better. Also - Game. I loved "The Documentary", I swear it's one of my favorite albums, but when it came to the whole beef with G-Unit.. I lost alot of respect for both of them, Game and 50, but especially for Game. I think that he put too much effort into that shit, if he'd acted like a grown up and stopped it before it became just hilarious and pathetic.. If all that energy was put into a solid album, then yeah, he'd probably be great. Now he's just mediocre for me and it's a shame, cause after "The Documentary" I hoped for something even better..

Because he has so much talent, multi's and flow and delivery out the ass but he wastes it on stupid ass songs and concepts and doing that stupid ass effects with his music. Songs like One Good Time, The Beast, Why They Ain't Callin and Riot Maker show how good he can be but he wastes it.

The good songs make up for the bad ones. No one is perfect.

Plus, he is one of the most successful independent artists out there.

Have you listened to all his stuff? KOD alone has TONS of incredible songs:
Show Me a God
Demons
Blackened The Sun
Strange Music Box
Horns
Shadows On The Road
And a bunch others...

My only "beef" with him is he usually has subpar features on his albums, but he does it to help his friends get their names out there.

I've listened to every single one of his albums.

KOD was garbage.
