As far as pure passion among rappers I think 2Pac is unrivaled so I would say that makes him real.

Ludacris is real too.

tbh I don't think there are any rappers who have stayed true to themselves throughout their whole career.

Whoever said 50 Cent should be shot.

I'll say he's up there.

Barring the little phase of hip pop rap music he put out, his character outside of the music has always been as genuine as any to ever grace hip hop.

He's the first artist I've ever seen where the people have literally pushed him onto the forefront of music.

His rise is literally straight out of a R rated comic book, and what's he's done for African Americans, New York, and especially Queens since has been nothing short of entertaining and inspiring at the same time, and this is not even including the ridiculous amount of crazy shit he pulled of as "BooBoo' and before he became 50 cent.

What you think most of 50's fans can't see his music isn't actually that great? Of course we can. It's his character that elevates him even more to people like me. Dude has lived the craziest life ever. From the Robin Hood of Queens to Curtis Jackson.

As for the question, I say Tupac. Easy.

It's hard because a lot of MC's say something which is bullshit just because it fits in the image they portray. A lot of "Hood" Rappers say they're representing their hood, when in reality, most of them are using it as an excuse to say hard shit.

Though some people take song lyrics too literally and fool themselves

As for realness...

Xzibit (especially the 1st 2 albums)

I think theres a difference between making relatable/meaningful music and being "real"

Real means making music that potrays your life, stuff that affects or has affected THE ARTIST as a person, talking about events that happened in your past, etc

I'd say the "realest" its either Styles P, Cormega or Ghostface Killah

Oh, and why wouldn't 50 Cent be seen as "real"? He talks about money, women, how successful he is, brags about his riches, but thats what "real" is to him, thats his life, and to be honest thats as real as it gets, regardless of whether or not people can relate to it
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
