Favorite lines?

Postby dead prez » Apr 2nd, '11, 02:55

Whether it be funniest, clever, deep, or introspective what are some of your favorite lines in rap? Also at least give a sentence or two, to explain why you like the line, so this thread doesn't devolve into a +1 thread.

Anyways

"Besides I aint rapping about dope nor did I sell it
I guess the story of a country boy just aint compelling"

"Like, this my dream, this my life, I sacrificed it all
Except my soul in the firm belief there is a God"

From Big Krit-Dreamin 3rd verse

I always like how "real" and true to himself, Krit is. He tells his story without pretending that he's something that he's not, it.

The second line is also great detailing how he believes that there might be a God out there, and refuses to sell his integrity or image, even if it means costing him fame.

Nas also has a lot of clever lines in illmatic, but one of my favorites would be

"I drank Moet with Medusa, give her shotguns in hell
From the spliff that I lift and inhale, it ain't hard to tell"

For those that don't know to give shotgun, it explains it here. Basically he's saying that he can get her stoned, probably not that impressive, but when I first searched his lyrics I was genuinely impressed.

There's so many great lines out there, but these are some of my favorite from stuff I've listened to this past week or so:

Now I can let these dream killers kill my self esteem
Or use my arrogance as a steam to power my dreams
-Kanye

Ironic that you been sleeping on the one that you been dreaming bout
-J Cole

You use sex to sell, your Nextel to Sprint
Everything you represent is immoral
Cingular, not plural
You and your Sidekick get rid of that whack Treo
I freeze MC's zero degrees below
The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
You need to get loose, to the heat of produce
From Long Beach to Boston
Your chicks text us like Dallas and Austin
I spark tireless illumination
Fire sixteen bars, wireless communication
-Pharoahe Monch

”This is the season for noise pollution contamination, examination and more cartoons than animation”-Eminem, Infinite

Not only are the rhymes sick, but it was an extremely clever way of conveying his frustration/disgust at a lot of the rappers coming out at the time and how they are fake. At least that's how I take it

Nah these are the type of rhymes I hate. It'a a lot of syllables, but not very clever at all.
Just look at the rhyming syllables:
-amination
-amination
-animation

They're practically identical. Words that end in -ion are taboo for me.

"Toast these nikkas, poptarts"
extremely meaningful line where you can just feel the pain of the pop tart as it is being toasted, this line serves as a perfect example why Wayne is the GOAT. Eminem may have made great lines like "window pane" & "you haters can make like bees with no stingers & drop dead" however I don't think he'll ever come close to topping Waynes amazing punchlines which he is obviously copying.

"Weezy F Baby and the f is for phenomenal"
just genius, he knows how uneducated his fans is so he's giving them a free spelling lesson within his song. Shows just how much he cares about his fans, what has Immortal Technique ever done?

How do you think it's supposed to be interpreted?
You think he's referring to rap becoming more mainstream so there is more listeners, but it is kind of looked down upon or feared? Then I couldn't explain the animation though..

I debated over the two..Idk.

That was one of the instances on Infinite where he just rhymed big words to seem impressive, although yeah he was pretty much saying the radio was shit with "noise pollution contamination" even though it makes no sense if you take the lyrics literally.
