Big Ax-D wrote:ok bro, I listened to this a couple times. I noticed a couple things that might help you for future beats.
you have the exact same problem in every beat:
1.- you need to mix them, and if you do mix them, you need to mix them better. There is no apparent EQ, or a compression that might boost low frequencies without having distortion.
2.- Your drums are too plain, its almost the same pattern all over again. except on Meteora, which was just a simple 4 sequence loop, you need to extend them be more creative. The drums on a beat are one of the most important things for a beat, because they are the flow. they are the power.
(make sure they are on a volume along the rest, not above,) add more kick to the kick. more low power.
3.- IT IS FUNDAMENTAL!!! to have a bass line on absolutely every beat you make. you'll see, open up Fl, add a deep baseline to any of your beats and tell me what u think. (I know Nightmare had one, but it had another important issue) EVERY beat should have it, unless its absolutely necessary for the beat not to.
4.- you need to learn a bit of harmony, some times when you add extra instruments to the sample they sound of of harmony, like out of tune you know?, (like on that Nightmare beat), you need to understand notes and how they affect other parts of the beat.
5.- You are focusing too much on the sample detailing, being creative on the sample and adding special things to a beat, thats good, but that is taking you away from focusing on making the entire beat sound perfect. You have a very good bank and choices of songs to sample, use that to your advantage, dont let them be the beat, try to incorporate them in less obvious ways.
6.- You are using short loops most of the time. take the enough time to focus on fabricating an entire piece to use as a loop... not just 5 keys together.
thats what I can think at the top of my head. remember man, use a bassline all the time and be more creative on the drum patterns. that will give you an extra push for quality; mix your beats, focus on every instrument and drum. Ask people to judge your melodies, if someone detects a note out of tune fix it before you release it.
great job. my favourite was Immortal.
