The new South and West Coast rappers absoutely destroy the new rappers from the east coast. Such a shame.

South: Jay Elec, Big Krit, J Cole, Yelawolf, B.o.b.
West: Dom Kennedy,Kendrick Lamar, Pac Div, Blu, Odd Future, Fashawn, Nipsey Hussle

It's time to accept that the future of hip-hop is the entire united state + England

Firstly, it's hilarious to say Jay Elec is from the South. Just because he was born there doesn't mean shit. Being born at a particular place doesn't mean you represent it. His style is more New York if anything anyway, but that doesn't mean we lay claim to him, but ask him, and he'll tell you he doesn't represent anything but himself.

Secondly, lol @ the West Coast rappers. With the exception of Kendrick, I wouldn't be proud to lay claim to any of those guys, and I got nothing but love for the left side too.

Thirdly, as for the east coast being dead, well I've heard that about a million times in the past, and we've come back stronger. We always manage to find something out of nothing and control the game again. Yes right now it's at its weakest because of the garbage Southern rappers that have completely shifted the way the game is run, played and worked, but New York always manages to deliver when it's counted out, whether it's Nas with Illmatic or Fif with Get Rich, NY always fights back.

We have veteran enough power to hold off these new upcoming n1ggas from all over the country. Excluding the great white American hope, who's the biggest rapper on the planet right now? Hov. Who's the most respected rapper on the planet right now? Esco. Who's the biggest personality in hip hop right now? Fifty. What's the biggest hip hop station? Hot97. Who are the three biggest hip hop entrepreneurs? Puffy, Hov and Fif. List goes on.

The South, for me, definitely has produced the most interest hip hop music for the last 12-13 years, butt man, NOTHING in rap music will ever match the quality of the East Coast between '88-'97

Is it dead? Nah, its just lacking the innovation of the South and the West right now, and even at that a lot of recent Southern hip hop has been influenced by Blueprint 3

Mobb Deep getting back together, The Wu sounding as good as they have since 2000-2001, Nas finally getting back to his Esco days, The BCC ready to drop a shit load of albums, Black Thought still ripping shit, G Rap finally getting some decent production, Freeway getting better with age, Roc Marciano coming through, Busta starting to take rap seriously again (his freestyle over the H.A.M beat was bonkers)- The East Coast is gonna come back with a bang over the next year or two
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

We're all relying on veterans to carry the East coast though, which isn't exactly a good thing. We need a movement like you said, either way I don't really care as I like Hip Hop regardless of what region. Though do miss when the East was reigning supreme.

The West is underrated as well outside of G funk and Gangsta rap, Blackalicious, Del, Zion I, The Pharcyde, Jurassic Five, People Under the Stairs.

Area honestly doesn't matter so much anymore. People are obviously gonna rep where they're from, but when it comes to being succesful, not so much. The internet allows access to all kinds of music, not just what's hot in your area. Hopsin is a perfect example, and he is an advocate of this viewpoint. There are some big mainstream MC's left with obvious area influence, like Game, but styles aren't really dictated by area anymore.

It will be back on top sometime. NY is hip hop roots, been there since the beginning and been there through all the fads and phases, it will roll back around to them. Then something new will come out and the East will be overlooked again, then it will roll back around to them again.

What innovation does the South have? The South is nothing but pure garbage. It's the primary reason as to why there is such a decline in the quality of music.

The thing with NY music is we care deeply for it, unlike the South and to a lesser extent the West, but that's only their new generation, the "nu-West" could give a shit about their roots and those who have paved the way for them. That's what sets New York apart, everyone who makes it in NY, they have a great respect for the culture of hip hop that New York has.

These new motherfuckers are nothing more than a fad, they're hot now but will go down as a blip on the overall hip hop history radar. Form is temporary but class is permanent, and a new hip hop legend will enter soon, and you can guarantee that he'll be from New York.
