Why didn't Tech's Everready blow up in the mainstream?

Postby FreeSpeech » Apr 7th, '11, 05:22

I just listened to this album again, how the hell did this not blow up? It's only sold 180,000 total, that's ridiculous!

And I fully understand why most underground albums aren't popular. However...

-Everready is relatively unoffensive compared to other Tech albums. Nothing Satanic, or really horrorcore.
-Caribou Lou, It's What You Thinking, Night and Day, and Flash all could have been radio hits.
-Almost every song has a catchy hook.
-There are good amount of songs about drinking and hos.
-There are great hype/pump up tracks like Riot Maker, No Can Do, and The Beast.
-Even the cover is pretty mainstream, unlike Killer or Anghellic or something.
-Most of his raps aren't delivered too rapidly, so they're understandable to the average listener.

Caribou Lou is pretty well known, I'll hear it at parties and stuff, but other than that this album is slept on by mainstream fans. I understand K.O.D. not being a mainstream album but damn...

How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?
