White America presentation

Postby StanBase » Apr 8th, '11, 10:27

Ok, guys, guys !
In todays English lession we got this exercise, present a music video.

I was thinking about White America, it's by some Eminem-dude smh

My plan is:
1-Power point; Tell shortly about Eminem(who he is)
-Talk about the album, theme of the album, how WA fits, and that it is the opening song
2-Show the music video
3-Tell about the video, the lyrics, maybe show some quotes, reactions

I'm thinking about this quote:
how could I predict my words would have an impact like this

Do you guys have any more good quotes from this song, and ideas for what to say about them?
Or some other quotes related to the subject of the song?

Are there any other music videos you think i should rather choose?
Any ideas for stuff to say about this song?
Any spesific things in the video or lyrics i should mention?
please help!

PS: keep in mind this is a presentation, not a report!

Like, fuck it, until I met Dre, the only one to look past, gave me a chance, and I lit a fire up under his ass

Notice his great usage of words so clearly describing how he lit the metaphorical fire under Dres rectum, this metaphor of course meaning he pounded Dres ass in front of Jimmy Iovine & Lady Gaga until Interscope decided to sign him. Originally they were planning on signing Cage but after that display they said "no white boy can eat ass like Marshall"

I would go with The Way I Am. Or Lose Yourself. The Way I Am would be the first pick.

I think White America is a good choice. You could talk about how the song is basically about all the controversy that the MMLP generated, and how it was as much a fault of the consumerism in society that bought into his image and messages, as it was his own. You could talk about how his race/skin colour helped propel him into becoming a hugely popular global figure, "And they connected with me too, because I looked like them" and "look at these eyes baby-blue, baby, just like yourself/if they were brown Shady lose, Shady sits on the shelf". There's a lot to talk about for White America. But similarly there's a lot to talk about for The Way I Am. How "The Real Slim Shady" wasnt on the original version of The MMLP that he presented to Interscope and Jimmy Iovine, and that The Way I Am is basically Eminem releasing his frustrations at being pressurised to come up with a catchy first-single that would appeal to the commercial audience.
