Dr. Dre sampled La Roux for Detox

La Roux's Elly Jackson reveals that Dre has sampled the vocals for one of the duo's biggest hits.

To say Dr. Dre's Detox has been long-awaited and long-overdue may be considered an understatement to fans who have anticipated the album for more than a decade. After releasing two singles from the upcoming album, "Kush" and "I Need A Doctor ," Dre has received some mixed reviews about the different sounds he has been experimenting with.

La Roux's Elly Jackson revealed to BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday that Dre is further pushing the envelope, sampling the Skream remix of the duo's hit, "In For The Kill."

"He got really excited about the track which is obviously really complimentary," she said. "He did something with it and then sent it to us and [asked] can he use it for his record and we said 'Yes.'" She also said, "[He's used] mainly the vocal and then he put his own beats on it. It's supposed to be on the next record."

Jackson claims that Dre heard the original track while watching an episode of Entourage that the song was featured in.

"Apparently he and The Game were sitting watching Entourage together. My manager always jokes that they were eating ice cream under blankets and having a girl's night in."

 at the bold part.

Man, Dre's ingenuity amazes me nowadays. Who else would have listened to that song and thought, "Damn, this could have made a dope hip hop song?"

Oh wait...YEEZY already did. Step it up Dre...

I don't really care that much about Detox anymore. When you can't even be sure he has produced anything on it, it is not worth waiting for. I thought Relapse had GREAT production but it doesn't matter when he lets Alex da kid not only produce a track but produce a fucking single.

I prefer beats with samples any day of the week. It gives the track a bit of history and gives me the chance as a listener to hear how they invisioned the beat when they started making it. It also brings back the spirit of hip hop when it started evolving in the early 80's.

To be fair you can say the very same thing about Gil Scot-Heron. Kanye West has sampled him a couple of times even though a lot of people have done it in the past. How about Kanye's "Drive Slow"?

Dr. Dre has not necesarrily used the exact same sample or flipped it the same way, so who cares?

Yeah, but overall Dre isn't known for his sample use , Dre said he doesn't like to use them and he likes to stay original and it's weird for him to use samples for his last album/singles without his production , IMO the best one with samples is Kanye West , i don't think there's a competition with that

I believe Dre will sell out on this one :shifty:

All dre does is sample son.

get yo shit right.

Yeah, I don't know why he doesn't like sampling. Maybe it's harder to make a good beat without? I heard DJ Khalil say that Dr. Dre was 'shocked' when he heard he hadn't used any samples for Jay-Z' "I made it".

RZA will always be the king of sampling if you ask me. The way he flipped old records in the 90's was beyond belief. I love how Kanye West is "bringing it back" though, it's the hip hop way for me.

True but the La Roux rumour keeps coming back. The first time I heard about it was in 09 or something so unless it leaks, I'm sure we're gonna hear them on the album.

First I was excited for this album, but after I heard the singles, I'm not. Collaborating with Akon? What the hell? Dude sucks soo much ass. Unfortunately, Dre will most likely retire from music without ever matching The Chronic.

I don't see why he isn't.

It's just utterly bizarre to me that Dre isn't producing. He's Dr Dre. While we don't know how much (if any) of the album he's produced, neither Kush nor I Need a Doctor was produced by him. I actually kind of like Kush's beat, but I can't listen to Akon, so it doesn't matter. I hate the production on INAD though. I would go as far as to say that it almost ruins the song for me. It would if I wasn't such a Stan. I like the song and I like the video, but I hate the beat. Something about it gets under my skin. The fact that Dre should have produced it probably adds on to my hate for it though.

I hate the beat for Words I Never said too...same annoying sound. Alex Da Kid... :shakehead: he's done some decent songs, but some are just horrible to me.

But this is Dr Dre—what on earth is he doing rapping over other people's (wack) beats? Hell, what the hell is he doing if he's not producing? Surely not writing lyrics.

PRODUCE.
