It was a successful song yes, but did Mockingbird make history? did Like Toy Soldiers make history? did Beautiful make history? Nope. They were all successful songs but none of them made history, they're just popular Eminem songs.

You are confusing something, those 3 songs weren't successful.

If you want a song that went down in history between a rap artist & pop singer look no further than Stan, that song was underrated by the public (even though overrated here) yet went down in history as one of the best mixtures of the rap & pop world, and this was at a time when Eminem was hugely against pop artists.

Stan is even a reason cuz I think LTWYL made history. Like a said some days ago, I find Stan overrated and not that good. Em's not even really rapping there ... And if that song is considered one of the best HipHop songs, why not LTWYL ...

Really? because last I checked Mockingbird & Like Toy Soldiers were his biggest hits in 2004 & still 2 of his most well known songs (even if I think they suck)
Beautiful was the song everyone knew him for in 2009, that was around the time I became a fan after listening to Relapse. I was bumping Underground while everyone else was bumping Beautiful.

I fail to see how anyone can consider Stan overrated yet LTYL underrated, Stan slaughters LTYL there is no argument about that.
Stan has the better story, the better lyrics, the better hook, the better beat, the better flow, the better delivery. It is superior to LTYL in every aspect possible. In 10 years from now people are going to remember Eminem for Lose Yourself & Stan not LTYL & Not Afraid.

His older songs deserve more praise, not LTWYL, or Not Afraid. The new songs off of Recovery, definitely overrated. I can't choose one song, though.

i can name two
stan and kim.
they are so overrated that it annoys the hell out of me. srsly, how long has it been since you last listened to these songs? how many of you have'em in your playlists? how much replay value do these songs get?

damn. i've been listening to murder murder, demons inside, brain damage, just don't give a fuck, still don't give a fuck, kill you, marshall mathers, criminal, i'm back, till i collapse, white america (and so on) since i was a child and i never stopped since. but i've never given that much of a listening to those two songs because they don't HAVE A FREAKIN REPLAY VALUE! these are songs like when you just appreciate'em. i do realize that STAN is big, and the smallest example of it is the usage of this word. but hey, as a rap song? pshhh, i don't listen to it. and i know most of you will deny but you don't listen to it either)) i bet all of you have listened to LTWUL more times than Stan or Kim

they are both OVERRATED. end of story

^ You're right for stan.. But sometimes when i'm angry, Kim is my shit. I bump it all day long and even sleep with my headphones and that song playing until I wake up in early in the morning to stop it.

Wrong, wrong ABSOLUTELY FUCKING WRONG .
While Stan doesn't have much replay value for me Kim is my shit, one of my most played Eminem songs ever & my favorite off of MMLP. Just because you think "they don't have a freakin replay value" (great grammar by the way) doesn't mean everyone is inclined to agree. Also for the record LTYL is one my least played Eminem songs, I don't think i've listened to it fully on my own even 5 times since the month Recovery leaked.
So yeah Stan may be overrated, but it's nowhere near the most overrated Eminem song of all time & to say Kim is overrated is just fucking stupid, did you see how fast that song was eliminated on the MMLP game.

The point is, what is really considered a hit ... Would you consider Crack A Bottle (by the way, don't understand the hate for this song) a hit? It was stll at number one. If the 3 songs mentioned by you were successful, then Love The Way You Lie was a monster hit, a decade classic, HipHops MVP.

At least LTWYL is an original song, while Stan sampled an already existing song. It's boring listening to Stan, it's too long, while I could bump LTWYL every day. And nope, Not Afraid is like Lose Yourself, an anthem that will be played forever and ever.

No Crack A Bottle wasn't even that successful, while Beautiful was his biggest song in 09 it wasn't as big as LTYL. However Mockingbird & Like Toy Soldiers dominated 04 & were even big in 05. They were the equivalent of Not Afraid & Love The Way You Lie in 2010. LTYL is nowhere near being considered a monster hit or a decade classic it's already being forgotten about now that the award season is over.

Too long? people who say shit like that usually have short attention spans.
WTF? you're saying Stan is bad because it was sampled? Do you have any idea how many great beats sampled other songs? Hip hop is built off of sampling, DJing was started through scratching records which later turned into sampling songs so saying Stan is bad because it was sampled is fucking ridiculous.
Not Afraid is a mediocre, poor mans version of Lose Yourself. He tried recapturing the magic & failed at it horribly. No song with lines like "haters can make like bees with no stingers and drop dead" or "thats why they call it window pane" will ever be considered classics.
What you're doing is taking overrated songs from 2010 & hyping them up to be the best songs ever while taking his classics & underrating them trying to make them seem less than they are by using some of the worst reasoning i've ever read.

I disagree, but some are debatable, love you more, we as americans, and when i'm gone are not debatable they're def. better

the story he tells in when i'm gone shits all over the nothing he sais on on fire

''fuck money, i don't rap for dead presidents, i'd rather see the president dead, it's never been said by i set precedents'' that line >>>>> on fire

I'd say We As Americans & Elevator are debatable, however I dislike all of the rest so obviously i'm not gonna agree about those. We As Americans is pretty underrated.

Man.

IMO Lose Yourself is overrated..

So you think LTYL & Like Toy Soldiers are great songs that deserve all the praise they get, yet Lose Yourself is overrated?

Yes I do it's my honest opinion and I'm entitled to it, I am not going to get the fuck out of here cause of it :p
When listening and evaluating a song the lyrics are very important to me and I found the lyrics of songs like Sing For the Moment, LTWYL and Like Toy Soldiers more touching and meaningful than Lose Yourself's.

Definitely 'mockingbird'. His flow and rhyming is horrible on this song. The only reason anyone even likes it is about Hailie and 'When I'm gone' has infinitely better rhyming and flow.
There's people that love me and people that hate me. But it's the evil that made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shady.

Crack A Bottle is Eminem's most overrated song. And also how can one song like Kim 2 be overrated??? WTF? It's not even a single and many people don't even talk about this song, also he has 34 million fans on FB, how many of them have heard about song called Kim?? Or White America - how can be that song overrated? WHo overrate it??? I think that when one song is considered as overrated or underrated at least it should be famous/single or something so many people and/or music critics to pay attention.
I like LTWYL but I can't compare it to Lose Yourself, Stan,Beautiful,SFTM,The Way I Am. Only LY had huge commercial success, the other songs were not that successful if we talk about charts. The music critics overrated LTWYL but it didn't win any Grammy award although it deserved it if we look the competition... This songs is great but I think it's his 2nd most overrated 'cos other of his songs deserved more charts & critics attention. If we talk about love-themed songs Love You More & Searchin are better than LTWYL, just opinion, I'm not hatin.
Beautiful is his best work after he ends his hiatus, 2 me it's one of the best music songs ever...That's my point of view.
Also I like his funny 1st singles(MNI, TRSS, WM,JLI) pretty much but I can't compare'em to his serious songs which contain deep & more meaningful lyrics, I just like serious songs more than comedy hip-hop but paradoxically I think Slim Shady persona should be on Recovery, maybe the album would be better if it contained at least 1 funny song, no matter if it was a single or not.
