The Cool vs Food and Liquor

Postby slimshadylappin » Apr 12th, '11, 02:30

It has come to my attention that some of you think that The Cool is a superior album. I actually didn't know some people thought this. I really love both albums of course but I think F & L is superior

I find both albums to be a little bit overrated (don't hang me), but I prefer The Cool. High Definition, Hip Hop Saved my Life, Streets on Fire..... awesome songs.

Food & Liquor for me. I think it's more coherent and has less filler tracks. Also, I like Lupe's delivery on his debut more and the beats fit my taste the better as well. Plus, most of my favorite Lupe songs are on F&L i.e. the best from F&L > the best from The Cool.

Then again Lello also thinks SSLP, MMLP and TES are the greatest albums of all time so...

I can understand Lello liking Lasers more than the other two. Fans and hip hop heads can call it terrible, but to be honest, with shit like "The Show Goes On", "State Run Radio" and "Beautiful Lasers" the album is easily his most accessible. Lupe's entire style up until Lasers was underground-esque but with generally better production, so I kinda get it if he thinks that they lack replay value.

As for the poll, I enjoyed them equally for the most part. Actually, I think I like The Cool's theme & feel a little bit more but my problem with the album is that it was a little too long. There are songs on there that I just don't replay at all and they felt like filler on first listen. The worst part of the album is Snoop's verse and "Go Go Gadget Flow", while not a bad song, is just a strange track to open that particular album with.

Food & Liquor is a good play all the way through, and with the original tracks that didn't make the retail it would have been a near-perfect album, so I'm going to have to go with that.

To sum it all up: His performance on both of these albums is equal, so it comes down to what kind of atmosphere you'd rather sit with. It's like comparing SSLP to The Eminem Show. In my opinion, The Cool's highs stack up to Food & Liquor's highs (maybe even higher), but it could have done without a few of it's tracks, so my answer: Food & Liquor

Fuck with the The Cool more. Can totally see where someone would like Lasers too. Lasers isn't bad people. It's just not what everyone expected it to be. I still blame the record label. Fuck that shit.

Beautiful Lasers is a fucking sick song. All Black Everything, Words I never Said, State Run Radio... honestly, probably the same amount of songs bump regularly on each album, but for overall quality, I'd go with: The Cool > F & L > Lasers

Lello wrote:@Satier, L.A.S.E.R's lyrics aren't bad at all, they're very good, it's just the prodcution and overall sound of the album that is mainstream, but tbh, I dunno why i was hooked this much by this album, it's probably my most played album since raw

I'd love to see where in my post I mentioned anything about Lasers lyrics lol.

But even so it's still his worst work lyrically. His wordplay was down to a minimal, the only real conceptual song on there was "All Black Everything", and some of the shit he said in Words I Never Said was just straight corn.

I didn't mind the production as much as alot of people seem to. The only beats I really hated was Words I Never Said (Mainly because it sounds exactly like INAD), and the New Boyz-esque "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now".
